I am slowly adding pictures to my plant lists. It is a nice place to combine all different devices photos in one spot. Camera, tablet, phone, computer, etc. . What I can not figure out is once they are there how can I add/ move one to the database? How can I add pictures from my plant list to a thread replies? Hopefully I am asking this in the correct terminology. Thank you for your patience and help!

Many blessings for a wonderful day!

I looked at some of the images you have added and selected a Ruellia. Look where the arrow is pointing. Copy/paste that line into the forum and your photo will appear.

I would like to know also. I have tried different things but they don't seem to do what I expect. I think Green misunderstood the question. That is how you would do it for photos added to the database. You might have to just upload them from your hard drive.

@Greene Thank you for taking the time to help. I think there is confusion where the picture is coming from. I know how to transfer/copy from the data base. Maybe I can explain it differently. If you look at my plant list-- Example. I have Hemerocallis Kansas Kitten. No pictures on the database yet. But under my plant list there are 13 different pictures taken with tablet, camera, and phone. So if I pick the one I think best represents it, How do I get a copy from the binoculars onto the database? What if It was on a phone that I no longer have? What if I want to show my pictures of Kansas Kitten's on a thread. I know to upload an image photo, but I do not see a choice for the binocular pictures.
Just like seedlings what if you want to put one on a seedling thread? I was putting the pictures under the binoculars so I did not have to worry what device took the picture, if that makes sense. Then I thought at my leisure I could use the pictures at NGA. I could never combine a camera picture and phone picture in the same reply on a thread without causing myself major headaches. Thanks for anyone's help. I am not tech savvy at all.

Sorry, you lost me at 'binoculars'. When I want to take a closer look I use a magnifying glass like Sherlock Holmes. Rolling on the floor laughing

@Seedfork is correct; I totally misunderstood the question. *Blush* When I add photos to "my plant list" I add them publicly onto the NGA database. I guess some folks must have private photos somehow added to their personal lists.??? I will go sit in the corner until I learn to read and comprehend better. Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing

That being said, I tried again. I went to your plant list. I found the same Ruellia and clicked on the binoculars. The result was the same: (I have added spaces so you can see...

I don't think seedling pictures and things like that can be added to the database, I knew that but my mind was not working, they have to be separate because of how the database works, so you would have to load them from a storage source I am pretty sure.

If you go to my plant list I think the first thing to come up is sdlg. #1 on my harddrive, but 201501S in my plant list.
So if I wanted to add that photo in a post I think I would have to pull sdlg. #1 up and upload the photo.

I think just like adding any photo that is not in the database. But I could be wrong.

I probably am not explaining what I want to do in a way that is easily understood. I never wanted to put a seedling in the database. Sorry for all the confusion.

May everyone have a wonderful week!

Maybe try the help center forum? Is it that you have uploaded pictures to your plant list from various different devices and want to be able to post those pictures to a forum from the plant list without having to upload them again?

I think I understand the question.

You have uploaded photos of plants to your Plant List, but you want those photos to also appear for that same plant in the database. Do I have that right?

Maybe.

1) What I used to do is add a picture to the database right away. But I soon realized there was a possibility that I could have a better picture two weeks from now. So I started putting them in binoculars. I figured then I would pick which one or two was the best quality and best represents the cultivar. Such as Kansas Kitten for me. Once I determine which I think should actually be in the database, I want to send to database from binoculars. I do not want to add all pictures first to database. I think that would either junk up or make the database unreliable. In binoculars, I have gorgeous clear pictures of Kansas Kitten. Those pictures are a once in a lifetime looks due to weather extremes. I do not want someone to think Kansas Kitten will look like that in their yard. Heck, it may never look like that for me again. But they are fun to share on threads, which I did on two threads. But too many devices and files, to continually figure out where the picture came from. Thought binoculars would short cut and help consolidate. Every picture can be valuable for different reasons on NGA, and NOT valuable to the database.

2) It was more of trying to not have to remember the source of where the picture came from if they were in binoculars. And for some crazy reason, maybe it is sensory overload, I have a harder time remembering where I am going to find that picture. Too many back files, devices to go through, hard enough to do the first time.

3) I always have access to binoculars, not all the other devices. (Especially if I visit different children for an extended time)

4) When repyling on a thread you can only upload from one device? If you want to show a plants progress over three years and those pictures were on three different devices. It has to be three different posts (which defeats the concise purpose). I thought binoculars would help again not to worry about device or file. Make visual thread replies easier and interesting! I thought binoculars would help my thread replies.

5) At first I thought I was missing how to do something. Like my tablet will not create tags or text boxes for my landscape photos or I have to turn my tablet a certain way to view different areas on NGA. I still have stars. I am not tech savvy. Takes me twice as long to figure things out.
Now my thoughts are... I was not missing how to do something but that I misunderstood binoculars. I am sorry for the confusion.

May Everyone have extra special blessings this month!

@Sooby I think you summed it up best.

@Dave you were partially right, but I only want some to go to database not all and some to forum threads.

Many blessings for your help!

Sharon, I'm going to take a crack at this -- although I may be completely off base and if so, I'm sure @Dave can clear it up for me/us. Smiling

When you click on one of your photos ("open" it) in the binoculars view, there's a little symbol at the very bottom of the enlarged photo, right in the center of the border. Clicking on that will open a box and ask something like what plant do you want to associate it with. If you type the name in the box, I think it will add that photo to the database.

I hope that works for you! Crossing Fingers!

Thank You! Sandi! That may have worked! At least it has gotten me closer. I did do one of Kansas Kitten' s pictures, it is not on the database, yet. It says it is submitted for review Crossing Fingers!

Hurray!

Until you've had a certain number of photos "accepted" for the database, they're reviewed by the moderators before actually showing up there; I can't imagine there will be any problem with your photos, Sharon Smiling

Sandi-- I am beyond that point with pictures. I was guessing the system just does it that way? Instead of coming in the front door (submitting to the data base first) I am knocking at the back door. Green Grin!

Thank You! for your help!

May you have joy this week!

It seems a lot of people are confused on the use of the binocular mode. Here dave explains it.
https://garden.org/thread/view...
The only good use I see of binocular mode when using it in your own plant list is that it shows all the photos you have added to the database previously and the photos that you have not added. The edit mode just shows the ones that have not been added to the database. So if everything is working correctly you don't have to guess "have I added this to the database before"?

I didn't know what binocular was for, never used it, missed Dave's note so thanks for linking.

Yes, Sharon is "beyond that point with pictures", any submitted directly to the database go automatically (with a few exceptions) But all images imported by anyone from threads/forums go into an admin approval queue.

@Weedwacker

Sandy-- just to let you know last night my picture went through to the database! Hurray! So one down and one to go! But, I think the one to go does not exist. There does not appear to be away to use it on a thread only.
So I will consider my glass half full! Thumbs up
Many thanks for everyone's patience and help!

May Everyone be abundantly blessed!
