Hi trish88337, Welcome!

I've never grown a rose from seed so I can't offer any advice on propagation but hopefully others who have done it will be along soon with suggestions and help. We have 2 Lady Banks Roses in our database with information and photos:

White Lady Banks (Rosa banksiae)
Lady Banks Yellow (Rosa banksiae 'Lutea')

I started some seedlings of Rosa banksiae 'Alba Plena' this winter. I placed them in damp paper towels inside a sandwich bag in our refrigerator until they began to make roots. Then I potted them up and put them beneath a grow light in the cool basement. According to my records, it took about 56 days of chilling for the seeds to begin to germinate.

Since I received the seeds in a trade, I didn't have to collect them, but I have collected other rose seeds from rose hips in the fall. You generally want to wait until the rose hips turn red to break them open and harvest the seeds.

Thanks for sharing that...I don't even know what the ladybanks seeds look like, don't know when to get the blooms if they have seeds.. don't know if the are asexual that they don't need the make plant for fertilization..Right now the bushes are in bloom and some flowers are dying and I"m trying to put those in a plastic container but I don't even see what the seeds would be. I tried googling picture of ladybanks seeds an d nothing..

Trish, the seeds will be inside the rose fruit (hips) which look like photos shown here:

@trish88337, if the roses are still blooming, you won't get seed for a while yet.

A couple of sites for how to collect rose seed and plant it:

I don't remember seeing rose hips on my banksias. Maybe they're exceptionally small? I somehow doubt that they're easy to grow from seed. I have some huge banksias in my garden and I've never seen a banksia seedling sprouting anywhere near them. Most people propagate banksias from cuttings, I think.

Yes I have read all the different ways to propagate ladybank by cuttings etc and I have tried everything and nothing roots regardless on what method I try. That's why I am trying the seed method but can't even determine if the seeds are a different color...ladybank isn't like a normal rose bush...I never see a "pod".. I have read posts on seeds from rose bushes and the seeds are brown/blk...

My Lady Banks are still blooming. I will watch to see whether hips form after the blooms fade, but I think the blooms tend to drop off cleanly leaving no hips. I have also heard that the banksia roses are more difficult than average to propagate from cutting. I think I would try layering - pegging a branch down to the ground and burying a section of it. Watch for it to form new sprouts from that section, then separate it from the mother plant.

Exactly...the way you worded it... the blooms fall off and there are no hips (sack thing like roses). I did read that ladybanks are supposed to be male and female...thought for a while I didn't have a male that I could pollenate but I have three bushes and don't see anything resembling pollen... You know one year I did bury a branch still attached to the mail bush and I though it was taking and I don't remember how it got dug up (probably the dogs LOL)

Does anyone know where to look for pictures of ladybanks rose seeds? I'm beginning to think that the growers are sending sterile plants that don't get a seeds like they are genetically modified? I have a container of all the flowers just as they are opening and/or dying and don't see anything like seeds. I was hoping to get a picture so I can see if there are any in the container..

Thanks..

My Lady Banks does not form hips/seeds. The blooms drop off cleanly once spent. I believe this is normal for Lady Banks plants. I have no idea whether seeds would be available at all.

Thank you, but how do the people get seeds for the ladybanks to sell? They have to come from somewhere, right?

I don't know the legitimacy....I've seen them for sale on ebay and amazon/
