Today's plant of the day for Salvias is Rosemary (Salvia rosmarinus 'Golden Rain').

This plant can be found in our Plant Database at:
Rosemary (Salvia rosmarinus 'Golden Rain') .

Please join in, if you own this plant! We would love to know more!

Also, please consider adding a Plant Performance Report to the database! Thank you!

This one has grown quickly and is quite different in leaf color. I've kept it trimmed down in height to about 18 inches. It's never bloomed heavily but the light blue blooms make a great combo with the gold foliage. The new growth is much less stiff than other Rosemary. Great to cook with.

@HamiltonSquare Leslieray,

I added the third pic of yours (to the first post), the one with the beautiful blue flowers. I'm not the person who adds the photos (that are already in the database) when the salvia plant of the day is posted. I do add photos after the fact, though. I don't know why the third pic wasn't in the group of three tonight. Probably just an accident by one of the plant admins.

Beautiful leaves and blue flowers! A pop of beautiful color together!

Hmmm. Thank you. That photo was posted somewhere else in a forum I believe and I have restricted the add to the DB for me only. I was waiting for a bigger bloom but that doesn't seem like it will happen with this particular plant for some reason and it's six years old now. I'd been looking for a bloom photo to post here but didn't find this one so I'm glad it was added. I did think that the Salvia of the Day was all you Marilyn. So you add the links in the second post when there's no database photo? I really appreciate that. I tip my hat to you.

Yes, that's me.

I search the net to find pics and add the links.

In the case of the past salvia plant of the day that didn't have any pics at the time they were the salvia plant of the day, I check for any new pics that have been added, and then, go back and add them (up to three) on the first post when they originally were salvia plant of the day.

I also add salvia plants (ahead of time) to the list of salvia plant of the day that will be presented each day . Right now, the list goes to July 17, but I just filled in a bunch of details to a bunch of rosemary plants and one salvia that I haven't gotten on the list yet. I'd like to be at least two to three months in advance of the salvia plant of the day list.

I'd rather the database for the salvia of the day be filled in, as much info I can find on the net, in case someone clicks the link for the salvia and wants to know more info regarding it.

I'm always searching for new salvia and rosemary plants to add to the salvia database, fill in details and get on the list for the salvia plant of the day. Right now the salvia database (including rosemary plants) is up to 2,156 plants.

I have no control (ahead of time) what pics (if there are a lot of them) the plant admin picks to post the 3 pics when the salvia plant of the day appears.

(I don't ever take anyone's pics from forums to the database, since I have it that no one can do that to my pics. Your third pic was already in the database for Golden Rain, so as the moderator of the Agastache and Salvias forum, I just added your third pic to the original post, so there would be three pics. The most there is for each "salvia day")

Thanks for the explanation. Very big job! Your really on top of it. 2156 is 5.9 years worth of Salvia of the Day not counting the new plants coming out every year. So I'm wondering if they repeat?

No repeats. Once they're featured for one day, they're done.

There are some salvias that I try and search the net and get nothing in info, so I move on to other salvias. Good thing there are new salvias every year.

Salvia number just went down to 2,155. One of the Rosemary plants was deleted, since it was another name for another rosemary plant in the database.

Salvia plant of the day only started a few years ago. Since there was already a daylily plant of the day going on here at the website, I asked Dave if I could feature salvias and he said yes, so it started.

Salvia leucantha 'Midnight' was the first one to be featured and that was on the evening of Sep 2, 2015. (I had to go back to the earliest past plants of the day to find when it started and that it was the first one!) The thread "Salvias of the Day: Midnight" in Plants of the Day forum

When there is a salvia without a "name", such as Big Red Sage (Salvia penstemonoides) on the evening of Sept. 9, 2015, then nothing shows up on the main page of this website but it's still featured. The thread "Salvias of the Day:" in Plants of the Day forum
