I recall a thread like this from last summer... I liked it, so I'm starting this year's.
Edge Ahead. I kept looking at the bloom, trying to figure out what was different. Then it dawned on me...

Well, I did have these four poly blooms at one time on 'Chief Four Fingers':

I have an unknown daylily seedling that I thought had produced a poly .... once. But it seems every bloom is a poly for the past several days.

Mike is the seedling headed to the compost all splotchy due to rain? How long did you keep it before deciding to compost it?

Yeah, how much of a chance do you give them? I got a couple of ugly ones right off the bat myself. Almost made me want to give it all up!

Larry and Mary it doesn't seem to matter, rain or not. I am no authority on seedlings but I don't have the time to baby them. I recalled the same traits last year. Mary depending on the genes, I would give it another. Mine is from a dip that was bought as a rebloomer. I have no connection to convince me otherwise. Euromazing is on the same path also

Thanks, two years it seems on that one was enough to believe the splotches were not going to improve, and it was not just on heavy rain days, but the normal pattern.

Help on understanding what to call this 3yr old seedling... this is its first year showing this mutation? The first bloom I thought was an accident, however now a few days later an exact copy on a different scape! Not pretty in color, but holy moly! Would this be a triple fused bloom?

From what I could tell on doubled, poly, or fused blooms is...
Double and poly blooms will have only one pistil
On a fused bloom, I see two pistils.
Correct me where I'm wrong, folks!

I don't have tons of experience with seedlings, but I've read that it can take a few years for a bloom to hit its final shape, size, color... Perhaps it's a double bloom that just needed the time to show its stuff?

Yeah it only has one pistil... none of my doubles look like this! It's just so symmetrical... it seems odd. Most of my doubles have a rippled appearance with more petals in the center. Anyone have experience with a double showing like this? Keep it or compost it? I'm making garden space in this bed.

A normal bloom has three sepals, three petals, six stamens (three for the three sepals and three for the three petals) and one pistil (made up of three fused parts).
A poly bloom might have four sepals, four petals, eight stamens and one pistil.
Or
A poly bloom might five sepals, five petals, 10 stamens and one pistil.
Or
A poly bloom might have six sepals, six petals, 12 stamens and two pistils.

I am not certain that a simple count of flower parts could identify/separate some poly blooms with two pistils from fused flowers.
