@admmad thank you for the explanation. The odd bloom was the third one on the scape to bloom and the first one like that I've seen in my garden...

Lavender Stardust being completely odd. This bloom is on the same branch as the mostly odd one posted earlier.

That could be excellent.
Now I have to change my previous explanation a bit. It may have to change again later depending on the exact pattern of unusual flowers on the branches of that scape.
It may be that the entire growing point for that branch is made up of the "sport". If the sport affected all the tissue in the growing point of that branch then the flowers on that branch will breed as the colour they show and not the registered (normal) colour. If a proliferation formed on that branch there is a good chance that it would flower as the sport.
It would be very interesting to have lavender stardust and its near-white version as separate plants; they would be genetically identical except for one gene.

I'm not sure I've ever seen this before. First flower ever on a seedling (Big Kiss x Lakes Midnight Beacon). Not really expecting a double flower. Got this:

All the extra petaloid material was on the stamens. You need to open the picture to really see it.

Check out the scape. Bloomed on the ground.

This happened to me on two separate plants this year.
These two flowers were on the same plant.

Same with these two.
Thumb of 2018-07-15/Legalily/f8124a

As I got closer on both I realized the odd bloom was on a separate fan so I assume they accidentally grabbed a fan next to the plant I purchased and now I have two separate cvs on one Blinking

@admmad The possibility if a sport occurred to me, though I didn't know if it could be just a branch of a scape. I also thought about a proliferation (wouldn't that be convenient!).

Thanks for pointing out that the mutation would affect the breeding potential. I think I'll self it first (make sure I get a copy of the mutation) and then dab pollen... I suppose we'll only find out if the trait is dominant after/if I can get seedlings to blooming age...

Becky, I haven't used it yet, but I'm gonna start!

Okay hybridizers- what would you put it on?

The characteristic (near-white) will be/is recessive. It is being hidden by the normal lavender colour of 'Lavender Stardust'. If you self-pollinate the normal flowers and grow enough seedlings approximately 25% of them should be near-whites. There is a registered cultivar from a cross of 'Lavender Stardust' and a near-white that is near-white.

The white flowers may be due to a new white mutation or they may be due to the white that Lavender Stardust carries as heterozygous inappropriately becoming homozygous.
