I have this Philodendron that one has been able to ID. Actually, I am up to 7 pots of this plant I like it so much. It is a vine and puts out mostly green heart shaped leaves. Very often with some white variegation on the leaves and/or stem. New leaf just emerging (it will get bigger) is all white. I've seen this once before. I have included some other pix of what is more normal. Most people tell me this is impossible. Hey, doing, seeing, having the impossible is kinda fun. Gene

Hi there Smiling

Hey, that's really neat! I like it!

I too have a Philodendron, it's never given me a completely white leaf, but has some interesting white patches.

I got it at a botanic garden sale. They said it was a cutting from an heirloom plant. I got one for myself and one for my friend. She keeps hers out in front of her home and someone who works at a local nursery stopped to ask her where on earth she got it, they'd never seen anything like it.

How long do those entirely white leaves last on your plant?

2 years ago one of my Pink Princess Philodendrons put out an all pink leaf. Again something the "experts" say should never happen. I just looked for the pix of that but did not find it just yet. Gene

Id like to see a picture if you ever do find one. It's fun to have stuff occur that's extraordinary, as long as it doesn't hurt the plant.

I guess variegated slit leaf philodendrons are a lot more common than I was aware. I never see them around here in stores or homes.

The unusual white leaves or leaf portions are unusual but obviously not impossible. Indeed, there is a botanical name for it. Plants that exhibit these uncommon physical characteristics are called "sports." (You can look it up in Wikipedia.) Sports are often prized because of their unusual qualities and are then propagated by cuttings (cloned) to try to preserve those same qualities. Sometimes it works and sometimes the cloned plant reverts back to the original. Sports are often the way that entirely new plant varieties are introduced, propagated and become regularized.

Great info, thanks. I started with one plant and am now up to 7 produced from cuttings. All seem to be alike, affair amount of white variegated leaves and stems. Gene

Not sure if this counts as well or not. Large Leaf Variegated Cuban Oregano. 1st pix is "normal" leaves. Gene

Somewhere I think I saw pictures of plants that lived deep in caves and never got a smidgen of light. They did not have a bit of chlorophyl and thus were totally white. Now where did I see those pictures? Sighing!

We need rain. Keeps missing me. So, I am out watering all my tropical plants outside and guess what I see? Yep! Another white leaf. Same species (Philodendron but NOID yet) different plant than last time. Cool. Yesterday when I was watering, a Hummer came and took a nice shower. Cool. Gene

That happened too to my Pel hortorum 'Pink Happy Thought':
The leaves were usually variegated like these:
Thumb of 2016-06-27/tarev/c046b1

But some leaves has been changing, reverting to all green, then to all white, then to all yellow, then back to mixed yellow or mixed white: I thought it was getting ready to die or something, but seems just wants to go like that.
