Follow up. White leaf is still hanging in there. I love how the stem/vine also turns white. Next new leaf - you guessed it - all green. Gene

So Interesting Gene! If I saw a plant that would throw out a pure white leaf or half leaf now and again,
I would have to have it. The way the leaf is such a bright clean white makes it so beautiful. If something like this were available I would run to buy one and soon after be starting a thread asking "how do I get more white leaves" Crossing Fingers! Love it.

I started with one small vine. I have been taking cuttings. I am up to 7 plants now. Send me a tree mail and maybe we can work something out. No guarantees though on when any one plant does this. It is very irregular. Gene

Oh you are very very kind. I couldn't. This unusual growth is really special. You should keep it. I would not have known to take cuttings to keep the anomaly in new plants. I think you should make it stronger and stronger and patent it, sell it and buy a yaught. But Thank You! If I have a plant you are interested in treemail any time.

Went out to see how the white leaf was faring. I'm surprised it lasts as long as it does. Yes, it is still looking good. But Guess What !!! Another white leaf emerging. Fantastic !! Gene

Isn't t this three leaves grown very recently now on this plant. WOW I am so curious. How many new green leaves compared to how many new white leaves.

I love love the solid white leaves, but the leaves that are half green and half white are absolutely stunning.

Have you been able to come to any conclusions as to what would encourage your plants to put out a white leaf. Your going to have to, when Monrovia calls you up asking for your plant! Very cool, Gene!

Love the update, Watching!

I have not been able to determine what encourages the white. To be honest, I have not really tried any experiments. I, so far, just concluded it is genetics. I'll have to take some more cuttings. I'll go out and make a count again of how many of this plant I do have now and do a count of all green vs. part white vs. white leaves. I think I have 7 plants. Nice thing about having so many house plants is that there is almost always something going on. OK, I have about 1850 which is way too many. It's that time of the year where I have to start getting serious about thinning things out. They all have to fit into my small, dark house for the winter. I did manage to find the time to spray everything with Azamax yesterday. Gene

Amazing. I cannot imagine how I would know what to water when. But it am sure it is fun. I was reading about a hoya, Krimson Queen that puts out some white leaves, and the stem is also white, like yours. Apparently these white leaves growing on white stems, live about 9 months and die off. But that is a long time. I just thought you may find it interesting. Love the update.

Variegated Hoyas are fun. No 2 leaves are exactly the same. These recent cuttings have made a couple almost-all-white leaves.

No, I don't know what the experiment would be or what part a human would play in it. I'd just happened to have taken a pic of those pretty leaves the other day, then read your comment about Hoya leaves...

For those who are new, isn't this a Philodendron Swiss Cheese Plant, Monstera Deliciosa, Philodendron Swiss Cheese Plant, with leaves eventually larger than dinner plates with lovely big slits on them.

I find these so lovely.

I am realizing as much as I admire this plant, it is also your photography, the compositions, the lighting, you must have an artists eye. How old would you guess this plant particular plant is now, Gene?
It is putting leaves on so quickly now. I must need to have a chat with mine. Thank you for the pic.

They ARE awesome pics! I'm not sure if the specific ID of Gene's plant making the white leaf was mentioned here. On 4/9, he showed a pic of an awesome variegated Monstera deliciosa leaf.

@Laurelca showed a stunningly beautiful Monstera deliciosa plant on 4/9 also. Well grown! That is referred to as split leaf Philo or tree Philo, or just Monstera.
Split-Leaf Philodendron (Monstera deliciosa)

(Split leaf Philo nickname is also often used for Philodendron bipinnatifidum.)
Tree Philodendron (Thaumatophyllum bipinnatifidum)

I was just loving the white leaves on Genes Philodendron, and said so, on one of Gene's posts showing the stunning white leaves. Next thing I know, he is sending me a plant. I cannot tell you how excited I was. The first pic above, is how the plant came, with a huge rootball, soil still damp, and in perfect condition, also shown in the second pic.

The third pic, is after potting it up.

The plant put on new leaves right away, in the 4th pic.

The 5th and 6th pics are of the plant already putting out a variagated leaf. It has been so much fun to watch this little plant and report to Gene, it's progress. I understand in about 6 months these plants begin to get really large. I have a couple rooms large enough for this, and will post pics along the way providing I don't loose it some how. Thanks Gene, it's such a fun plant, and your so dang kind!! If anyone knows what Gene collects or likes, I plan to reimburse for postage, but something special would be so fun to send along to say thank you with. Thank You! This place has the nicest people.

From my experience, the stem is pink versus white. But, when I had my 'Krimson Queen,' her pink stems with all white leaves didn't die off after nine months. I'd lose a white leaf here and there (pretty rarely though, no more than the random green leaf). I did read though that the all-white leaves can cause it not to bloom, as some feel that they only suck energy from the plant, but mine never bloomed, so I don't know the validity of that. I believe that was from being in a large pot (she was big, but I realize that they seem to enjoy smaller pots).
