I just kind of looped a little monofilament around it, not tight, its loose enough not to cut into it. I read they can be grown upside down because they tend to curl and curve all over the place

I don't currently have any mounted Broms but for many years now, I've used the cheapest nylon panty hose or knee hi's that I can find. I cut them into strips of different sizes and store them in a zip lok bag with my gardening supplies to have handy when I need to tie something. The nylon fabric works really well because it stretches and gives and doesn't cut into the plant tissue. Once the plant has attached itself to the mount, it's easy to cut and remove the nylon.

Nice little Tillie, will take a bit of time for the roots to adhere, but looks like you have it attached pretty well. I'd keep that one upside down, supposed to like it that way. Thumbs up

OK as a Tillie newby I must ask....if I glue it where do I put the glue? Surely I don't cover the roots, right? I am not satisfied with the mount either. I thought it would be cool, putting it on the Devil's Claw, but I think I need something more substantial

I've never glued a plant, but certainly would not glue the actual plant leaves or roots. I'd certainly do an Internet search. I've had great luck with nylon pantyhose, but with larger bromeliads. Is there a way you can glue some moss around the base and wedge your tillie in it? Another mount might work better for upside down hanging.

From what I read, they said not to put any moss, because these are prone to rotting at the base if put with moss. I have an old hose in the drawer, (who wears hose in FL anymore? They don't fit into flip flops LOL) I will use that and I think put it on a piece of blasted grapevine instead

I wouldn't use Sphagnum Moss (Sphagnum cymbilifolium) because it can stay wet and become compacted. Spanish Moss (Tillandsia usneoides) draped around Broms and Tilleis looks nice and it's airy and dries quickly.

I like the idea of lightly securing it to something with spanish moss.

You can glue the very base of the tilly, it is okay. It can even grow without roots. It gets its water and nutrients through the leaves. New leaf growth comes from the center, so it does not hamper the plant. I use the glue Tilly tacker. Or you can use any waterproof glue.

I got some small cheap plants at Home Depot, I think they are bulbs and I don;t know what the others are, I will take a photo...I know they are common or they wouldn't have been 2 for $5 in a bag LOL. I used E6000 to glue them to blasted grapevine, they are dating now, after that I will wrap with some Spanish moss

So I mounted my El Cheapos on grape wood, one of each type to a mount together. I think the octopus looking one is Bulbosa, right? What is the little reddish one?

And I decided to put the Intermedia on this shell. I am hoping it will get long enough strands to loop back thru the open part

Looks like ionatha to me too. I have 2-3 of them. I also use the E 6000 glue when mounting. Just a small bit on the base as Tarev mentioned.

I have yet to glue a Tillandsia as I have been chicken in doing so. I usually use aluminum wire or fishing line to hold them in place until they root themselves down.
Thumb of 2019-03-02/ScotTi/9a427a

This one had fishing line for attachment last summer. Rooted well and the line removed.

Hi Y'all!

I think everyone deserves 2 thumbs up and acorns! Though no new oak tree seedlings!

I enjoyed the info and pretty pics! I am interested in the display tips, glue, wire, nylon hose, and soil.

I posted a question in the Ask A Question forum about displaying broms and ferns.

I didn't know whether to post in the Ask A Question area or in the bromeliad thread.

I was new to the site and the Ask A Question link came up, so I posted there.

Now I am beginning to find my way around a little better!

For my garden club's plant sale, a member displayed staghorn fern on driftwood. I remember we had a discussion about what type of glue to use and which to avoid. It's nice to know specifics about the glues and mosses to avoid, and why, and which materials to use in the displays, even with shells!

Keep posting more pretty pics and helpful hints! Thanks! Terry

Almost there. These are glued to the live oak wood by the way.
