Love it, Lindsey.

The Vero Beach Gardenfest was pretty much everything people said it would be. Lots and lots of vendors (85 I think), with a wide array of plants, materials, landscape companies, and garden dΓ©cor. No large national or international orchid vendors though and the prices were basically retail. But there were still a lot of vendors with orchids, probably well over a dozen. Not a lot of bargains to be had when it came to orchids. I went twice and loaded my wagon each time. Hopefully, money well-spent. Whistling

I liberated these 2 dendrobiums from the Lowes Death Rack the other day. Their crime? Starting to go out of bloom.

The second one has an interesting flower color - I'm not sure I've seen a Dendrobium like it. I like it!

Great save Gina! I wish my 2 Lowe's and HD carried something other than Phals ( which are really hard for me to grow). At least we occasionally get nice bag babies.

Um, Karen, NM isn't known as the garden state. LOL! Not enough people or gardens to put on a show like that. We have the climate here, but the venues are hard to come by, and expensive. Too many people and not enough available space here. We do have lots of orchid growers though...and easy shipment from Hawaii and Asia. I went to the target store that I used to live across the street from today, and I think Target was the only sign that was in English. We do have a "Spring Garden Show" in an enclosed Mall, a Garden and landscape show at the convention center, and the Fullerton college does an open house and sale. Be grateful for your peaceful state. You have lots of wild flowers in the mountains.

@Daisyl you know I thought the same thing! Its a very delicate lavender. Of course neither one had a tag. Lowe's NOID specials. I looked inside at the ones that were still full price and they didn't have any that matched it.
There was NOTHING wrong with these...pseudobulbs nice and firm, roots look great. Just dropping their flowers

Gina, I picked up an orchid at Raleys (think Publix) a couple years ago. It was priced at $18 but I had never seen anything like it. The plants are the first things you see when you walk in the door (its entrapment!). It was still on my mind when I got done with my shopping. It was a little wilted but looked really good otherwise so I circled around and picked it up. The lady at checkout says: "I can't charge you $18 for a dying plant." I said ok, whatever you think (thinking maybe half off maybe....)

When I got out the door, I looked at my receipt and it said $3!! Wow! I watered and it was fine. I think that was 2016 because it was the first ID I asked about on this Forum. The great folks on this Forum ID'd it as Zygopetalum Bluebird. It has become one of my favorite repeat bloomers.

Its blooming right now but I am on my tablet so a photo will have to wait until I get back to the "smart" computer. Smiling

I never had one close either, Karen. I really didn't get a lot, just two wagon-loads. You can hardly tell that I have added any plants to the landscape...... Whistling

Our HD must have all their plants pulled by the vendors. Unlike Lowe's, I have yet to see plants put on a liquidation rack.

HD returns dead plants for a credit instead of letting customers get a bargain. I had a friend who saw something in the TRASH at HD once and asked the cashier if she could have it and was told NO and if she reached in the trash to get it they would call security

I had great experiences with HD when I lived in CA. The lady taking care of the plants saved "garbage" orchids for me, knowing I would buy unique plants. She waited for me to come in and marked them half price. That will never happen again. Sighing!

The Publix at our old home used to toss perfectly healthy orchids and other plants, especially azaleas and hydrangeas, when the blooms were fading. I knew the floral manager and knew she knew the plants were perfectly good and the shrubs would do well in a landscape but store policy is to not sell anything past it's prime - even plants. I tried to get them to donate them to a horticulture program for developmentally delayed adults but got nowhere. Shame on Publix, I used to see out of date milk on the shelves all the time. Grumbling
