Love every ones favorites.
Always good to get new ideas.
Last summer was the first for me being a bit more serious about adding SDB's and MDB's to the garden, so I can't do a top 10, instead I will rank the few I've actually have grown to bloom, starting with the one I love the most.
1:
'Aria Cigana'
I love the subtle colors!
The first year(2017) it had 3 bloom stems from a single planted rhizome. This iris blooms very freely.
The second year(2018) it had lots of stems. It was not halted by the extremely cold and wet summer of 2017.
The only possible downside is that with a lot of flowering you will get a little less increase, but it still grows plenty.
2:
'Wish Upon a Star'
A very striking iris in the garden. I love its visual impact. It had 3 stems in the first year, but I got a rather big rhizome of this one, so that should have helped some. However only one flower per stem. That said I'm not sure what the normal bud count is for this cultivar.
3:
'Vlastelin Kolets'
1 stem in the first year, 3 in the second. For my tastes it is a very pretty iris, but the downside is that the blooms lasts shorter time than most other irises, at least in warm weather. I have yet to seen it bloom in colder weather.
4:
'Cat's Eye'
One stem in the first year. The second year it still had only one stem, but this was probably because two fans rotted in the summer of 2017. Growth is plenty but so far it has not quite lived up to my wild fantasies of it throwing up millions of stems in a gigantic explosion of color.
My hope is that last years warm summer and a new location will give me much more blooms.
Last year I added a couple of more "red" SDB's so Cat's Eye will have to fight for its place in the garden.
