Betty - I will be removing that seedling in the fall, it has good parents in its background..

Susie - I am glad you like LOC.

I will use this seedling for hybridizing next season..

Lyle.
My favorite daylily that I'm growing is NATURE'S CROWN but it was very small and sparse this year. Last year it was the strongest DL in my garden. Heat I believe. The most robust this year is LOC. Color great, size, #Buds, etc. Dunno why?

Those are both incredibly gorgeous, Lyle! I of course am drawn to the first, but the second one is absolutely wonderful too.

Hi Lyle,

I'm always so excited to see your seedlings, especially the siblings! It's amazing how different they can be from each other. Your seedlings give me hope that I'll get something great one of these days! You have a special gift when it comes to making crosses, and I love them all!

The most exciting thing for me is that yesterday I found my first scape on one of my seedlings from the year before last! I can't wait to see my very first bloom from a cross that I made! WooHoo!! Hopefully it's not so ugly that I want to toss it out! Now if the rest of the babies would get some scapes, I'd be thrilled. The wait is killing me off!

Oooh Natalie! That's exciting! I've tried to get a seed to sprout with no success. Take pics!

Beautiful seedlings Lyle!!

Natalie that is so exciting that you have a scape on one of your babies, I hope it's a beauty!!

Susie, did you refrigerate your seed.?? Did you just plant them, or try to germinate them???

Thanks! I found two more scapes coming up last night on two more babies!! I almost didn't get any sleep! I can't wait!!! I promise I'll take pictures, but if they are ugly, I may not share them!

Yes, Margaret, I did refrigerate the seed(s). I had about 5 actually. Not sure I planted them properly though, or that I gave them the right (indoor) exposure. Will try next year. I didn't pollinate this year.

Susie, that's too bad that you won't have seeds this year, better luck next year.

Margaret, I'm afraid that I might have to start that thread! There is no way my first seedling is going to be amazing! I just found another scape starting to grow, so I'm overly excited now! I just wish the rest would hurry up and grow!

Margaret, I'd be shocked, since the parents weren't what I'd call stunning, but they are all I had to work with at the time. Oh well, I'll be happy even if they are ugly! I had much prettier daylilies to work with last year, so hopefully their babies will be pretty. Now if I can just get them started, I'd be better off. I finally got around to soaking them yesterday. I'm so behind this year! Looks like I'll get blooms any day now from some of my daylilies, which is much earlier than usual. I normally don't get any blooms until at least July 4th, other than the ditch lilies and a few Stella's, though the Stella's aren't regular bloomers for me, and they never rebloom. I've really got to move them!

Lyle, do you ever get any ugly seedlings? I'd love to see some pictures! It would give me hope!

Thanks for the comments!

Thanks Natalie!

I do hope you will post your new seedlings. Your first seedling is always your prettiest seedling, it is a proud moment when you bloom something out that is one of a kind.

As for the ugly seedlings - Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

Lyle, luckily I'm out of drool from looking at all your other pictures! These are to die for! I don't think I've ever seen one of your seedlings that I don't like! I remember though that you posted a picture last year of a seedling from Larry Grace and Ed Brown. I had Ed Brown, but bought Larry Grace because of it. To me, it was perfect, and I'm hoping to get something close! It will take a while to see the results, since they haven't bloomed yet to make a cross, but I'm so excited about it!

I sure hope you are right about my first seedling being the prettiest! It's sure taking it's time though! At least I've found a few more scapes and have more blooms to look forward to!

Margaret, that's awesome! It's a beauty and one of my all time favorites! I'm so glad that you got one! Mine has done really well. I got it in the fall, year before last, and bloomed like crazy last year. I decided to move it, knowing I might not get a bloom this year, and it has lots of scapes on it! Woohoo! Be sure to post some pictures!
