That's impressive Evelyn! nodding Fantastic--
I'm am making note for future shares/trades!

Here's another favorite of mine
Thumb of 2019-03-21/dirtdorphins/fc535d
Painted Doll, Boen '57/'64
Love it!
Originally, I threw it in with some other historics. When it bloomed (a lot) that first year it was so bright and clear it stood out like a sore thumb and made everyone else look dingy Hilarious! So, I moved it over by a yellowish and purpley rose conglomeration. I was hoping for magical color echo pics last year but the bloom times didn't coincide and I never had any magical moments,
Thumb of 2019-03-21/dirtdorphins/f77150
but, here you get the idea...
So this was part of it, in its second year, technically, but after being rudely transplanted in its first year. Grows well Smiling and smells good. I love irises that smell good!

Dirt ~ That Painted doll is amazing! Lovey dubby I like it when they smell good, too!

Lucy, I'm pretty sure the disappearance of Haunted Heart is hypothetical, sometime in a distant future ... a lot of great irises hang around, others become great parents and get scarce when their children take over parenting...

I have a lot of historics in my garden, but here are a few favourites. These have proven to be very hardy in my harsh northern climate. Many other iris have failed whereas these endure.
Spartan is a gorgeous dark, velvety red iris that has been extremely tough through less than ideal conditions. It is a very dependable bloomer.

Moondella is one of those iris that you either love or hate. It is very muted, but it is extremely vigorous and a colour that blends well with other perennials.

Crystal Glow is a particular favourite of mine. It is prolific, multiplies, blooms in a relatively shady spot and is late blooming!

Gypsy Queen was given to me by a dear friend whose family homesteaded in our area. It was a prized acquisition for her mother in the early 1900's. It has been extremely vigorous for me and I love it.

Little Black Belt is another iris that survived and bloomed despite being crowded and shaded in my perennial beds. She has been moved to a prime location as a reward. Love the colour on this one.

Captain Gallant was a gift from a friend back in the early 1980's. This iris has followed me through a couple of house moves. A survivor, for sure.

Carolyn Rose blooms at the same time as the creeping phlox and what a gorgeous garden picture this makes!

Chatter Box is extremely vigorous and dependable. It clumps up fast and blooms heavily.

Cherry Smoke is probably my most dependable tall bearded iris. I have it in front of the deep red peony Sword Dance, and I love it when it blooms along with the buds on Sword Dance.

Country Manor is a big, tall white. Another of those that has been with me for over 35 years. A tough one for sure and I love the bright yellow beards and hafts.

Thanks, everyone! We have quite a bit of land, so I seem to just keep expanding. Not much leaves, unless it dies. We had to thin some trees a few years ago, and the iris are appreciating more sun.

Too bad we could not band together, all of us iris lovers, and purchase 3,000 acres of land where we can all live and grow irises.... Rolling my eyes.

I have had Little Black Belt for about 25 years, so it is a tough little thing. I love the bushy blue beards.
