Thread OP

Hello, I am completely confused and have read a number of discussions. Some are so scientifically complex that I can not really understand them. My "bible" on plants has always been HORTUS THIRD, but now I believe this wonderful reference is out of date.

I am 81 years of age and always have been interested in succulents -- as a child I used to save my allowence to purchase florists' boxes of cacti. What I need to have is a clear explanation of Semperviviums verus Jovibarbas. Are they or are they not separate groups of plants? And what about Jovibarba heuffelii??? Is this some kind of 'different' Jovibarba? Nurseries that sell these plants on the web seem to be as confused as I am and are really no help. Can anyone set me straight?

Hi frostfairy. Boy do I love your screen name. How did you come by it? Smiling

You are correct about your older horticulture publication. So many names have been changed in just the last few years. You'll have fun catching up on all the new names, everyone is so helpful here.

Great questions on Sempervivum, Jovibarba and J. heuffelii. You came to the right place for learning about them.
They all belong to the same family: Crassulaceae
Here are some links to help you learn about the differences.
Jovibarba:
Sempervivum: Sempervivum
