pitimpinai : I'm in Edgewater, 60660, south of Evanston, close to the Lake. If I'm not too out of the way, would you be able to stop by me before you head to Ellen? I don't drive, and I don't think my folding shopping cart will hold all that I'd like to bring to the swap. If you don't see this in time or can't stop by, no worries.

Happygardener23 : My condolences. I don't have any of the plants you listed, but I do have an unopened packet of dill seeds if that'd help. Sorry that I don't have more to offer.

LinneaL : I would love any Actinidia polygama (Silver vine) that you can spare. A local pet store had some loose, not in plastic. I bought two short sticks and my cats weren't at all interested, even though they like dried catnip. Since your cat at least reacted, perhaps mine would prefer the type you have.

VerdantApt, I think people would give the pansies a try, and the snapdragons should do well.

seedrat, thanks for the reassurance.

Three cheers for pitimpinai! She met me today and picked up plants and stuff from me that would've been too difficult for me to bring myself without a car. Apologies in advance that the chives don't look the greatest. People in my community garden dug them up and dumped them in a wheelbarrel.

She also has the small green plastic bag of succulent cuttings I promised people.

I noticed some milkweed shoots coming up in the space between my yard and my neighbor. This is the common milkweed plant that attracts butterflies.
I will dig them up for you.
Hope they will bring some butterflies to your garden Smiling

Happygardener23 said:Hello everyone,
I have had a full and challenging winter/spring planning for my daughter's bat mitzvah this past weekend alongside my father's advancing illness and ultimate passing on Monday. As a result, I have fully neglected my garden; not having divided, gathered, or planted a single thing, which makes me sad (and I'm supposed to be happy, it's right in my name!).

I have many memories of my Dad tied up in my gardening, and would be especially grateful for any lovely heirloom tomatoes that might be available and any cucumbers, summer squash, kale/chard, basil, parsley, or dill to complement the tomatoes and host the butterflies that I like to raise each year with my children. We need some butterflies right now :)

I have not gone through all of the pages of lists to make specific requests. If I have time I will try to do so before the swap, but I have a lot of missed work to catch up on and preparations for my father's funeral on Friday. If you have something that I have listed and wouldn't mind setting it aside for me in the holding area, I would be most grateful. I plan to be at the swap on the early side and will not be able to stay until the end. I am looking very much forward to being there with you all!

HappyGardener,

I'm so sorry for your loss. I have some red monarda which would bring butterflies and color to your garden. Let me know.
Take good care!

Thank you all for the words of comfort and the offers for plants. I actually have milkweed that I got from Annette several years back for the Monarchs and monarda from Mone so I am well set there. I just need dill/parsley to feed the Eastern Black Swallowtails.

If any of the following are still available, I would appreciate them:

VerdantApt-snapdragons
Pitimpinai-Prairie Smoke if available (I had some from you many years ago that are hopefully still growing at the garden of my old house). White bleeding heart if available
Jasmine-raspberry
AlaynaGT-raspberry
Seedrat- Starry false solomon's seal, raspberry, rhubarb, basil

I can probably bring rooted cuttings from lemon balm, oregano, chocolate mint, and maybe thyme if desired. I also think I saw an abundance of borage seedling volunteers in my front garden if anyone wants.

I am so sorry about your Dad, Happygardener. Hopefully your garden will help to restore you in time. I have found over the years it's been my best therapy.

Annette, I didn't see your earlier offer of wild ginger and Rudbeckia Triloba. If it's not too late, I would like some. I know you have to pack early.

tini 777, that color of mum is fine. I lost a lot last winter.

Verdant Apt, any snapdragons left?

Does anyone have Sun Gold cherry tomatoes this year?

I have not been home much to dig. Or when I have, it's been raining. Frustrating! I have all the requests updated but if something comes in later, I might not be able to do it unless it's something I've dug not already assigned to someone. I am painting a rocking horse with animal pictures for my granddaughter's first birthday Saturday. I have a rabbit and 4 animals left to paint! I was WAY too ambitious. I hope you will understand.

My plants were all picked up by pitimpinai yesterday. They are now with her or Ellen, so I can't set aside any snapdragons or pansies for anyone, sorry. I am taking notes though, so when I see what's made it to swap, I'll assign them to people in the pre-swap area. I hope this post makes sense.

Sorry, folks. My days are packed with errands and preps for the swap. 😰
Other than the plants that have already been promised, I either have no more chance to dig up some more or they are no longer available. Maybe next year.

Few last reminders
It is rain or shine event. Bring your own trays or boxes and maybe extra to share, please label all your buckets etc that you want to take back. As many of you know, it gets pretty hectic at times.
We should have layout similar to previous years.
Do attempt to label what you bring.
Also there is couple of Hydrangea "Alice" ? divisions avail. Pls treemail me for direct email to that person, am not sure I will be able to pick it up.

I am happy to say that I had unassigned pots of almost everything that's been requested in the past day, I may not manage to dig the one thing but we'll see.

DianeH, I'm so sorry about your loss. I look forward to catching up with you at the swap, and I'll keep an eye out for echinacea.

See you all Saturday!

For those getting geranium cuttings from me: they root in potting mix, not water. It's still easy. I use a cut apart 2-liter bottle, or you can use what this article says. But you don't have to get the sand mixture they say to use. I use fluffy potting mix and I don't moisten it until the day after I make up the pot.
