Please post a handful of pictures here to wet our appetites. Then give a link to a photo site with all your pictures (Picasa, Flickr, Photoworks, etc.). That way, we can use this thread for a long while.

Here's a tip for photographing at shows. Always take a photo of the flower, then a photo of the label. Label your photos, delete the label pics and voila! another orchid resource for us all!

Oh and another tip. I always find that no matter how much light I thought there was, my pics are blurry at shows unless I use the flash. Feel free to add more tips.

Now ON WITH THE SHOWS!

Here are a few pics I took. The lighting conditions were tough. Spotlights. When I used a flash, they were overexposed. Without, my hand shook. Oh well!

The link works great, Kathy. I need to learn to create one. Meanwhile, for those within a reasonable drive to Atlanta, the annual "Orchid Daze" event at the Atlanta Botanical Garden is in progress http://www.atlantabotanicalgar.... I was there during the set up but have not returned for the show. Hope to add photos at that time. There is a new theme each year and this year's theme is vertical walls. The mass blooms creations are always impressive if not Gaudy-ish. Rolling my eyes. BTW, I'm lovin' these little people but wish I knew what they meant without having to put a string of them up and then pick one. Life was more simple with a lol and :>).

Laurel your link doesn't work for me. Here's my attempt!

As far as the emoticons, I'm with you, just learning them!

Can't wait to see the walls, gaudy or not! I'm uploading my Smith CGH pics as we "speak". Check out the GH thread.

Another weekend, another show. I refrained from buying more orchids at the NHOS Show, but today the same vendors turned up at the Amherst OS Show and I broke down and bought 9 more orchids!
Here's a preview of the show. Glen Decker of Piping Rock http://www.pipingrockorchids.c...

Nice piccies from the Show, thanks.
Glen Decker looks very friendly in that second picture/see above. He always smiles! And he never minds having his picture taken. I like that he is very approachable and answers question.

I like the name on that red Cym, Genji Murasaki. ( It took me last year 2 months to read Genji by Murasaki Shikibu, I loved it)
Is that Bill H in that car?

Nope. Just a nice gentleman that was on a buying spree with me. I did however schmooze with Bill several times. (The judges held up the works so we schmoozed a lot.) My DBF says The Tale of Genji is a sublime book.

So, I live 20 minutes from Piping Rock. Are there any orchids I should consider over others when I go to visit?

I believe Ursula and Todd have his kovachii seedlings and crosses. They are a big deal and are expensive. But you should check with Ursula and Todd about how they are doing. I mostly buy his other orchids (other than slippers) when he comes to our shows. But I also have bought a few paphs and phrags in bud when I saw them. He has the whole gamut of slippers.

With orchids, I'm cheap. I have killed them in the past, even with a greenhouse. I'm looking for a reliable bloomer that doesn't need a lot of specialized care, but different from the phals I see everywhere.

I would go to Piping Rock with a fresh mind and see what appeals to you. And then ask how to grow it and see if it fits your conditions. Many of the Phrag kovachii hybrids have come down in price. Piping Rock has really nice selections of all sorts of Slipper Orchids, which are easy to take of and showier than anything related to kovachii and they have other good stuff as well. All around, Piping Rock's prices are in the proper ball park.
I think you will kill less by buying good Orchids from a good dealer, like Piping Rock!
