Wow, this thread is becoming amazingly huge! Everyone's lilies are so beautiful!
The heat, drought, and some required out of town stints have really taken a toll on my garden this season. Many of my lilies are still performing mightily considering the difficult circumstances. Here is my lily week in recap:
Here is my favorite OT so far: 'Alchemy' from The Lily Garden. Thick petals, gorgeous colors that have to be seen in person to be appreciated, and a very strong, sweet, wonderful scent. I have been picking these huge blooms and putting them in bowls of water. One blossom can be smelled in several rooms. First year plants are short at around 30".
I never thought how much I would love the LOs. Here is the very robust 'El Condor' at 6 feet tall with giant blooms 9 inches across! Extremely heavy, sweet, gardenia-like fragrance at all times of day, but especially at night.
And then there is 'Triumphator' which is slightly shorter at 5 feet tall but with a higher bud count. Flowers are also 9 inches across with a wonderful scent that is faint during the day and incredibly powerful at night. Love it! I definitely would love to seek out more LOs.
Another one from The Lily Garden, here is the OT 'Quintessence'. Colors are not so vibrant in my heat and full intense sun, but the fragrance is strong and exquisite.
Here is the lovely 'Silk Road'. Now that I have seen it in person, I realize how wonderful it is. It sometimes looks so fake and tacky in photos. Fragrance is strong and lush at night. Forgive the garden hose in the background.
And here is an OT from The Lily Pad, 'Invasion'. It is in the hottest, most drought prone part of the garden so I hope the stress it is experiencing explains its somewhat broken coloration. It is very pretty but has a scent that is best appreciated in the open air. When cut and brought indoors it can be overpowering and can smell uncannily like formaldehyde.
One last OT, here is 'Satisfaction' with unusual colors and a sweet, fruity scent.
Here is a poor picture of the North hybrid 'Eros' with faded petals of 'Yellow Whoppers'.
And now the lovely classic 'Red Velvet' which was extremely late to emerge from the ground this spring.
I must confess that I am a bit disappointed in the colored trumpet hybrids. They are tall and lanky and have very little of the grace and refinement of Lilium regale. They only have a discernible fragrance at night, whereas Lilium regale is fragrant at all hours of day but intensifies and wafts at night.
'Golden Splendor'
A freak bloom of 'Pink Perfection' with two flowers merged into one. All flowers on this plant remained this dark.
