Robins And Spring

When we work in the spring gardens it is good to check our shrubs and trees for little visitor nesting places. We can find some nice surprises. Parent and baby photo to follow.

This is the photo the banner was taken from.

Each spring and summer our yards are filled with birds of several kinds. We are careful to avoid their nests; and try to keep them safe from predators. In this picture there is a "daddy" robin caring for a baby beneath a Weigela bush. They are very caring and protective parents. I placed a circle around the baby.

Wonderful Leon. I love the baby "juvie" robins. They're so sweet and sound so sweet.

Great capture and great banner.

In your pic above, looks like the parent robin is trying to get the baby to get his or her own food by walking away.

I just love it!

My helper started to clean my gutters last week and I told him to keep an eye out for bird's nests. I know that there are robins that hang out in my yard and I've read that they like to make nests in eaves and gutters among other places.

It's just too cool that you were able to see the nest and then see the male with the baby. Thanks for sharing the pictures!

Leon, we have a few evergreen trees in our yard, I'll have keep an eye out for any nests. Hopefully, we have nests. Crossing Fingers!

We do have a birdhouse hanging from one of the deciduous trees that the chickadees nest in every year.

Beautiful timely banner. I always wonder how mother robin can make such beautiful colored eggs. Is it the combination of food that she eats? Duck eggs have similar colors, only lighter. I think some chicken have the same colored eggs too, also lighter. Some chicken have brown eggs, I think dark feathered chicken----Need to find out if someone has made a study of colors of eggs shells and why they are the way they are.

Sometimes I do find eggs but very often they get eaten by free roaming animals, either cats, squirrels (lots of them) or red fox? I also see rabbits, but THEY do not eat eggs---

Back to your banner, it is beautiful, with patterns of the sunlight coming through the leaves on the eggs; and I am especially happy to know that they were hatched successfully ---thank you for sharing.

Thanks everyone for your comments. We are a "bird family" with literally hundreds of photos over the years. I cannot imagine a home and gardens without them. We have taken photos in various places including an aircraft engine intake vent shown here; (Local Air Museum)

To the following individuals I want to express my thanks for your thumbs, comments and interest. I have always felt gardens are 'dead' without bees, butterflies and birds. They add so many benefits to our environment.
