Shawn ~ In answer to your question about placement, yes, I am still "trialing" the irises in the rows. I am making notes of how tall they get, do they bloom the first year, are they well branched...(and yes, I know you can't always tell the first year on that.) Do they bloom all at once, or consecutively, and what about the bloom shape? Are the petals nice and firm or are they weak and melt right away.

That is one of the reasons why I wanted to hold off doing any crosses this year...but it looks like the bees or other insects gave me some gifts. Yes, I can experiment with germination techniques while I am at it, so I can save time. If I get a lot of seeds, then I sow just a few, then I can save some and store them dry, and they can be sown at a later date if anything looks promising.

I would rather wait and see what irises that I currently have to see which ones have many good qualities before doing more crossing. Doesn't that make sense to you?

By the way, this conversation should be continued on the seed starting thread.

(This thread is for those who just got a box of irises.)

Evelyn, that's what I've done. But, I was simply trying to explain, in the ordering process & everything else, that goes along with, (& yes I do get sidetracked.) before & after, "getting your box", ought to be considered, as opposed to "trial garden in rows", as you "showed on the previous page."
It simply seems relevant to me, when considering ordering the contents of that box, which will end up "here, " as to what you'd ordered,... & then becomes, "I got a box ! 2019."

O.K. I just looked up 'Cosmic Voyage', which came from Mid America, & the pod parent, is supposed to be 'Sorbonne'. Now, apparently, I think I may have wanted to get that one, from Mid America, also, yet because my "shopping cart" kept dumping the contents out, entirely (& repeatedly!) apparently didn't get it from there, but may have bought it from elsewhere, anyway ! But, at least the "bonus" Iris, was 'Secret Past'.

Of course, after having ordered 'Exploding Galaxy', as I like it so much, came to look into the Database & found out, it is by Ghio ! ( With "Parentage Unknown", & would have to make an "educated guess", at the parentage...) Yes, I was checking out, that fast, as I worried it may "sell out" that quickly, before I could complete my order ! Sticking tongue out

Shawn ~ Why don't you just list what you got at Mid-America here? This is the right place for it.

I thought I already listed them, didn't I ? Perhaps elsewhere, too, in a an attempt to be humorous...about what I had exactly ordered ! 'Cosmic Voyage' ,'Exploding Galaxy', 'Adriatic Noble', 'Reckless Abandon', 'Sizzlin Hot' ( bonus) 'Just Witchery',plus 'Mixed ' Signals' & , 'Smoky Dusk' with "bonus, 'Secret Past'.
Some other's are in my plant list & I have more, on order, so can't really say, those are "I Got A Box", as they haven't arrived , quite yet. Though I may have listed, a few others on order...Will add, as they arrive maybe in ten days , or so ? Some, possibly , later, from Breck's ? ( Plus, some I need to pay Postage for..later) Off, to the store , now..

Oh, Thank you Evelyn, as although I was pressed for time, at the last moment, I'd actually forgotten the methods, to "embed photos" & not only that, but the code for creating italics, too !
Some digital cameras, can't quite actually "capture" the the true essence of an Iris flower, very well, & while some have difficulty in the red/orange spectrum. Yet, some others may actually show obvious problems, with displaying blue or purple, correctly, too ! I've noticed, @ARUBA1334 must have a really high quality camera & often displays, so very well, it may almost be as if looking at that Iris flower, in person....

While some, use early, or very late day, lighting, for best effect, especially @Serjio & @cliftoncat, also excels, at Iris photography !.. For instance, in the Database, I'd seen one photo of 'Cosmic Voyage" & actually thought, it just may be 'Sorbonne', instead, the appearances were obviously not so subtle, & differed greatly, between some of those photos ...If you "enlarged" some certain ones, such as, of 'Volcanic Glow', 'Cosmic Voyage', or 'Adriatic Noble', you'd see those rather quite dramatic differences, I'm speaking of..

As for 'Secret Past', the "I Got A Box, 2019" photo of the rhizome, "is shown, while still in the box" , I hadreceived, & is actually in my plant list ! lol (along with a few others, I've ordered...)
I simply wasn't so certain, I'd want the "first" photo of 'Secret Past', to be a rhizome & not the bloom, instead...I'm not "finished yet" with I "got a Box, 2019" !

Robin ~ When people only post the names of the irises, that post can just get lost or ignored unless that name has pictures to go with it. I might know what they look like, and then just skip to the next post instead of appreciating the beauty of each iris. I have looked at thousands of images of old, current and new irises. That doesn't mean I remember them all.

(I just thought others would like to see them, too.) Thank You!
