OK, about the poor seedlings into the water/sand, they probably rotted immediately or sooner. There was no "after" photo! haha

I'll have to try grafing again, I'm getting too many pinks. And, hey! Maybe surveyor's tape! Available at larger hardware stores. Awfully bright colors, but it's really stretchy.

Tell me once again, why Graft??? You have an ugly bottom on your white so you graft it to your pretty bottom pink?????

Grafting is to have a flower that you want on a caudex you want. Growing from seeds is not the way to get a flower that you want, it's a gamble.

You absolutely cannot grow, from seed, a yellow double, or a double purple, double white, or any Adenium of specific type of flower, except pink.

The professionals know which general types have more vigorous caudexes, and sometimes they graft a slow flower to a 'fast' caudex to promote more vigorous top growth.

If you have a dozen plants, there's no reason to do grafting.

I know this may sound like "dumb question" but here goes anyway...Do they grow those colors you mentioned on their own bottoms then????

I'd say yes! I have a few white and I think it would look real nice to graft a deep red on to it, and while I'm at it, why not graft a white branch (which I cut in order to receive the the red) use that white and graft it on to the red. Verity I believe is the spice of life. Unlike Melissa I think that if you have many different plants, is all the more reason to graft some on to the others. Also, just to learn how to do it is fun.

I agree with you on that Jim, I may just use mine for grafting instead of giving them away.
Mike look at the money you could make with four different color flowers gradted on one plant.

Well I will be gone for a week to visit my son, will drop in if I have a computer.

This is probably a stupid question, but here it is What do you think do we need to use a non-adhesive tape for grafting?

I think as always not a yes or no answer

First with all the videos and grafting i have seen most the time it is by Thailand people OR People from India and they use plastic pieces its cheap and its what they have that gives them the stretch the desire!. Also if you see they graft so much it would cost a lot of money with any other type!!

Second If you are in the business of grafting plants its also cheaper.

if you can have the 15 fingers and 3 hands i find I need to use slippery tape or plastic strips then great.

BUT one draw back on tape with adhesive when taking off the tape will you destirb the graft?? Will the adheasive become stronger or brittle in time ,heat,or moisture?? Will the adhesive leave glue on the steams when you remove? i think we all have seen how tape can leave that glue on something after time and have to scrape or use nail polish remover to get it off.

with all that said......if you order grafting tape you get a white fabric tape with adhesive on one side. so i think you need to try to use what ever you can afford and try different things and see what is best for you!. I had a few plumeria grafted for me and rubber bands where wrapped to secure the graft together and then they use other to seal the cut. i was thinking there is grafting wax also in these starter kits. a lot of plumeria people have started using liquid electrical tape to seal the ends of the center cuts of plumeria sticks that are exposed to the air. i wounder if you can use that or wax to seal the graft if you can use something to just hold together ???

my thoughts maybe to much info...

Interesting, I read somewhere (do not remember where) one person used a glue to glue 2 pieces together and it was successful. What is a liquid electrical tape? I would need to Google.

I used electrical tape on one, and plumbers tape on another, I kind of liked the plumbers tape; it stretched quite nice and held firm. I think I should know Sunday or the day after if I was successful. I think I see new growth on both plants but it might be wishful thinking! Shrug!

Just do it!! You can't learn if you don't try. I have a couple Adeniums scrapped down the side and set together with that Cling and Seal kitchen wrap. would you believe it, they are getting leaves. I'm trying to grow them together.
Yep, We will find out if it works. I'll have pictures....
Adeniums are tough little Rascals. I love mine, very easy to get addicted too. Like I need it!!!! Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing
Just give it a try Dear and see what happens...

I was taking my newspaper out of the wrap bag that the delivery guy puts them in and I noticed the plastic stretches! I thought hmmm, I'm going out today and cut a strip and use it to graft another adenium, it also makes a perfect bag to cover the grafted plant. I love finding uses for stuff I usually throw away. Hurray!
