The Summer of Stolen Tomatoes

By Sharon
June 20, 2012

They were only little tomato plants, each no more than two or three inches tall. I carefully dug two of them from the family garden and transplanted them to my own private garden hidden behind the playhouse. After all, who would ever miss two little tomato plants?

Flour? Whoever heard of flour in cornbread? That would turn it into biscuits, sure as anything, Charleen. And biscuits are well suited for gravy but not for tomatoes.

Self rising flour does have its advantages, doesn't it? Big Grin

Ummmmmmm . . . MJ, don't hate me over this, but I don't eat meat.

Seafood yes, but other meats, no.
So I know what Swiss steak is, but haven't eaten any.

But do you eat tomato gravy with cornbread?
Or do you eat it with biscuits?

I'm not very southern, am I? Sad

Tomato gravy is so good you could eat it over cornbread, biscuits or loaf bread.
Yes there is flour in it, milk too, if you want. Just like Regular gravy.
I open a can of tomato, pour into 4 c. measuring cup, (while the flour is browning )
finish filling cup with milk or water. Go stir that flour til it is cooked enough, then add cup full of tomato and milk and keep stirring til it is thick enough. Yummy!!!

i would only want tomato gravy with biscuits. and i only want cornbread with vegetables unless it's like a stew or chili. meat and biscuits. cornbread and vegetables. that's the way to go. nodding

you know polly said something insightful...........your stories sometimes do make me sad. takes me back to people and places that i miss i guess. those people were so simple. how'd we get so "sophisticated" so quick? when you write them.............are you sad? or are you glad to be away from them? you don't have to answer either. however if you did character analysis on some of those people i think i would like reading that.

Charleen, what type of oil/fat do you use to brown the flour in?
