Yesterday, the temperature reached 102 degrees; I had notated on my garden diary/blog on DG that in 2011 on June 10th. temps reached 102 degrees also.

When it is above 90, I water my flowerbeds early in the day and certain plants may need it again later in the afternoon. Flowers/plants are like our own bodies..when the temperatures soar, they need to stay hydrated to survive.

I have been spending one hour in the morning and one hour at night watering .We have had less than an inch of rain this month and several 90+ degree days.
It takes 3 days to get all the gardens watered, but I would rather water than weed any-day

Most of mine are getting by on a 7 to 10 day deep-watering rotation. The rest just get buckets from the livestock tank and water-holding barrels (can't really call them rain barrels this year - there hasn't been more than a trace or two). The last system that came through yesterday split north and south, continuing east and missing us entirely. Nary a drop fell here...

We're getting a thunder storm with good rain right now. YEH! I was just out after dinner watering my new plants and transplanted flowers. We need this rain so bad..it was 102 yesterday and today was near that, but it didn't seem as hot, maybe not as humid even though our backyard thermometer reads 102..wished it would rain all night, it would be great.

I have the office window open and the breeze feels delightful. Think I'll have to get the soaker hoses out but I hesitate doing that because of somebody tripping over them, especially in the front.

Pippi we just had a nice little storm also,due to get more tonight. I'm going to shut off the timers for the night. I have been watering
twice a day with this heat 101 yesterday and 100 today. My tomatoes are getting hand watered also a extra time.

We were fortunate enough to get 20-30 minutes of a fairly steady rain yesterday....much needed as we'd only gotten 0.05" in the last month.

I have all of my containers set up with drip irrigation, and drip hoses in some of my beds. But nothing is better than a good rain! This coming week temps are going down to the 80s, a welcome relief after many days of 90+.

Only about 1/4 in. but hopefully there is more coming tonight. Still hear some thunder in the background but the sky was so pretty after the storm with the sun shining through the clouds.

Same hot dry weather here, no rain in sight. We haven't had a drop of rain in weeks. But it is supposed to be cooler for a few days- highs in the 80s- until we return to the 90s Thursday.

I did a bit of watering yesterday. Ha! We had a torrential downpour last night, and it's still raining this morning! It got all the way up to 80 yesterday and I was miserable! Somehow, I don't think I'm going to enjoy this summer.....

Pippi, those are called microbadges and you buy them with acorns. Are you familiar with acorns and how to get them?

It's currently 100 degrees out. It's been weeks since we had any rain.

Fortunately almost all my plants are on a drip system. The lawn gets watered off the irrigation ditch about once a week.

I guess we were lucky with the storm and rain last night..one of my sisters lives about 25 miles from me and they had a really bad storm, wind, thunder, lighting and even hail. The wind took the roof of an apt. building and displaced 42 families that the Red Cross had to put up in hotels. The little bit of rain we got probably lasted 30 min. and measured 1/4 in. It was only 93 today but no humidity. I managed to get most of one flowerbed mulched and once I came in for lunch, didn't go back out in the heat until about 6 pm. It has cooled down considerably, it's only 72 degrees.. Brr! After 102 degree days, 72 feels cold!

100 degrees out there now at 7:05 pm.. but according to tv weather reports, some cities over in Northern Va. report as high as 106-109..that's probably with the heat index. I have 32 houses to deliver our community newspaper and Mutal newsletter to but this volunteer will get it there when she gets it there..Maybe it will cool down in another hour or so and I might get some delivered. I've been a volunteer for that for 5 or 6 yrs. I'm about ready to tell "them" it's time for somebody else to come forward and take a turn. It gives me force exercise though; it's like ironing, you dread doing it but once you get started, you keep going!

Everybody keep cool and drink lots of water if you need to go outside. Maybe I'll hook our soaker hose up tomorrow and I wonder if the next door neighbor has remembered to turn theirs off this afternoon.
They have it on the bed where the Iris have already bloomed, and some evergreens but yet they haven't watered their tree that they paid hundreds of dollars for. Excuse? Their hose nozzle is broke..duh! Home Depot and K-Mart is one mile away.

We got about 15 minutes of rain today (mostly wind). Our ground is so dry, I don't think any of it actually soaked into the ground

But, it did cool off the temps about 30 degrees when the front rolled through. But, back up to the uppers 90s tomorrow (better than the 106 it was yesterday, right?)

Something good came out that storm last night..2 in. of rainfall. My daughter that lives about 8 miles away in another city called to see if we have electricity. They don't and she sees a neighbor's popular tree over powerlines and she wonders if that is reason her electricity is out. If she doesn't get power back, she's going to attempt to get to me to use our freezer, as she had just bought up a bunch of meat. Nice to know I won't have to water all the flowers this morning. I didn't work out in the flowerbeds yesterday; entirely too hot. I have one or two gardening chores that I'd like to accomplish and that won't take long.

We also had a huge storm roll through early this morning....more lightening and thunder than I've seen in quite a while. We also got a good bit of rain, but also some destruction. A home about 1/2 block from us was hit by lightening and most of the 2nd floor of their home burned. It is so sad to see things like that happen.

I had to chuckle when I saw this thread! It seems all I get done doing this year is watering the containers and the greenhouse. Thursday I spent over an hour on just the containers and not two hours after that we had a nasty storm and over an inch of rain. Last nights storms missed us but we had only a few drops of rain so it will be back to the hose again today.

The glads I have in the field to cut and sell are getting dry and the heat is taking it's toll on them. The flowers are wilting on the bottom before the top ones are even looking like they will open. I get 50cents a stem for these beauties and I was hoping they would at least pay for themselves this year. Oh well, in the gardening business you never know.
