I hate to brag, but......it rained this morning and it's still drizzlin' a little! I've been walking the garden taking pics of what has survived the 100°+ weather. Yea rain!

Nice and relatively cool today! No rain, but at least the heat wave is over...for now.

Well, I spoke too soon about the rain. Had some start soon after that post. About 5 minutes, then it became a light drizzle. Don't know if I'll get enough to be measurable, but it feels nice!

We got a torrential downpour yesterday afternoon accompanied by surprisingly fierce winds. It only lasted a few minutes but I'll always take a free rain.

This year has been the best year we've ever experienced for rain. It's amazing what a reversal this is from last year's drought. We have a lot of dead standing trees, like everyone else, but everything else is super green right now.

High humidity and heat in the Houston Area. We're out of the drought, too! Hurray! We get afternoon down pours but it has been 5 days since it hit Kingwood, north of Houston. Sometimes the south part of our town will get it and the north part where I am won't--or vice versa. We look forward to a break from the heat and high water and energy bills. Just getting through August......It's HOTTTTT! Sticking tongue out

Here in Ohio, it was 99° today. And we haven't had significant rain all summer.

But I'm glad my Texas friends are getting some relief.

That is nice of you, Karen! We are phasing into more restrictive watering. I think I will soon have to rethink my tropicals in the backyard. We have had a few cases of West Niles in our county. I drained the upper pond where I had lots of plants and few fish. No standing water that I can find. Scary, tho.

Most Texans paid their dues, and more, last year!

I wouldn't wish this weather on anyone. It has been our 5th hottest year ever.

I had heard that Houston was out of the drought. We're in moderate level drought here. This is a long, long drought! At least this summer isn't as bad as last year, however.

If only it would cool down at night. But 78* in South Texas is all we can get in August and that is around 4 am on a good night! Phew! Speaking of ponds, My thick growing anacharis and hornwort is giving my fish all the shade they need. I know there are fish under there because the food is gone. I just never see them as i know they are down in the bottom where the cooler water is. Unfortunately the Leopard Toads are in there, too. Fish is their favorite food. Grumbling Once the plant life slows down it's growth, I hope to have a few baby fish left!

I saw your post late last night about the Leopard toads. We have one that's taken up residence in our pond. I thought he was soooo cute! Before this spring, all we ever had were the "trilling" frogs that come after a rain and sing all night long looking for a mate. Now, I'm not thinking the Leopard frog is so cute anymore! I have gambusias to control mosquitoes in the pond. Hope the frog hasn't eaten them.

Those leopard frogs are to be blamed for my low population of baby koi! they eat the babies! Grumbling Then we battle the raccoons as well. One caught the only surviving baby from my koi. Thor was 2 years old, about 9" long. I thought DH was going to cry! RIP, Thor.

I saw a show on frogs last night. Frogs: The Thin Green Line on Nature (PBS). Really kind of depressing...about how they're trying to save the many vanishing species of frogs, but a recent threat, a very fast-spreading Chytrid fungus, is wiping them out across the world at an extremely fast rate. Oh and I saw this cartoon on lawns in the paper today...so appropriate for Texas lawns:

Hahahahaaa Rolling on the floor laughing The cartoon is SO TRUE!!
I found a dead frog in my pond today. I was kinda sad, kinda. Then I saw 5 more in one pond and 4 in another then I wasn't sad any more!
