Let me try my hand at raising those little plants, and then I'll try to grow from seed. I've been unlucky with seeds (of any kind) in the past. *Blush*

No rush. These plants will be around for a long long time!

Mr. Ko went to Mainland China to start a big nursery. He mentioned on the Yahoo Adenium group that he will be selling seeds on Ebay again this summer. Not there as of right now.

Another seller announced herself to the Adenium group, then immediately drew attacks for using Mr. Ko's photos. I haven't ordered from her yet. She's in Australian dollars, says she'll be in US dollars next month or something.

I'll have to take a couple of photos of the 2 month old seedlings that I'm growing at the Botanical Gardens where I volunteer- they're really going to town.

Ok... got my other Ebay experimental order... this from a grower in Ohio. I made the two orders on Ebay before I discovered this forum.

It was not expensive, they came well packaged, and the little plants look healthy. I think. Smiling

What I got (we'll see, right?) Sticking tongue out

Adeniums-

... and a Tillie plumeria Smiling

I'm worried that the hot S. Florida summer sun will be too much for them, even when I have them on a shelf on my screened patio.

Here is a closer look, hopefully I planted correctly:

What do you guys think? Now I have a total of six little plants (five adenium and one plumeria) to raise. I'm a little scared but looking forward to the learning process.

They are cute little plants; I would slowly get them used to the sun.
In the case of the Plumeria you'll have a few years' wait for flowers....

I agree I agree I agree i like that on adenium already has 2 branches they look healthy

one thing think about (not now ) but if you like to start looking for bigger pots for a re pot next year they will most likely start to grow fast in their new loving home

great job potting like the stone on top i fine that it reduces the evaporation of water so be careful on over watering.....i have to do it in some of my not to tip over Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing

keep up with the pics

thanks

You guys give me hope! Rolling on the floor laughing

I don't mind for the plumeria to take years... as long as it doesn't die on me. *Blush*

Should I move them from the screened patio into my house for a while?

I'll leave them where I have them. They're actually on the back of my little screened patio, rather than the front. But the sun is so intense!
The first two adeniums that I got from another Ebay seller have adapted nicely, so I'm hoping this batch will do just as well.

Can the tiny little plumeria withstand so much sun, or should I shield it somehow?

Ive, think of yourself standing out in the desert sun at mid day in central Africa, someplace inbetween the Congo jungle to your south and the Sahara desert to your north. That is where these plants are native. They LOVE heat.

A couple of years ago, I had two kitty litter pans with about fifty baby Adeniums in each pan. They were covered with plastic. I forgot and left them covered, on my hot deck in full sun, when I went grocery shopping one day. The heat built up like in a car with closed windows. I think 'they' say 140 degrees. The (African) obseums cooked, boohoo, they all died, but the arabicums, those from Arabia, did fine! Most of our Desert Roses are obseums.

Heat is different for us than it is for Adeniums. But the same as us, they will sunburn if you take them outside for a whole day. Needs to be one hour the first day, two hours the next day, and add one hour each day.

Before it went belly-up I worked part time at a local nursery. My boss started adenium from seed. It was so fun to watch them grow...little tiny seedlings already with butts with an attitude. Just too cool !!! Your's are cutie patooties

This is the first phase of my experiment. If the seedlings survive, I might try my hand at some seeds. I don't feel confident to do so yet. Sticking tongue out

One of the biggest things with seeds is good seeds........daaaa i kinda joke about it but have planted over 300-400 seeds and have not got more then 50 plants and they are sold as fresh. I think a big part of it is how are they shipped. if they are in plastic bags it saves moisture and if they go by air express are they getting to cold?? its cold at 30,000.feet. if they get to hot will they evaporate to much moisture in to the paper envelopes?

I really want to order more seeds but have about 350. still to try to kill first Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing

well last night put another 12 kinds to soak and 5 seeds of each we will see how this works.

hand pollinating i have tried and i have learn to control my shaking of my hand. But it is on my list. i did 3 different grafts last night so we will see how it works. i have a grafting tool used it on 2 and free hand on one the free hand is a triple graft not to happy but if it turns out good it will be a great plant.

mike

and BTW my head is always spinning Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing
