By wildflowers

Here's another plant that most consider a weed, but let's take a look at all it offers before we start tossing it aside.

Thanks for the article! Of course it wasn't news to me living in the Mediterranean, where it grows abundantly in the summer time. I'm happy that this wonderful salad green is getting the recognition it deserves.

I got arthritis in my hands a few years ago, but the pain always goes from a 5 to a 1 during the months that I add purslane to my salad. This is one of our favorite recipes: Pick the leaves from the stalks leave the leaves whole but chop the stalks; add tomatoes, cucumbers, onions, feta cheese (optional) add olive oil, balsamic vinegar, salt and pepper. I can eat the whole bowl all by myself. Plus I'm pain free from May until October !

Oh, that is some very good and interesting information, Aphrodite! Thank you for sharing about how purslane helps your arthritis.

Your recipe looks so good that I'm fixing it for dinner tonight. I just love every one of the ingredients, it will make a nice salad, I'll call it "Aphrodite's Mediterranean Salad."

Haha! Those are two guilty looking chickens. :)

This year, we did not have as much of this growing as in past years. Figures... after I learn they are edible. Ah, well. There is next year.

I have to laugh again, seeing that picture. Hilarious! Sometimes they will get in the pots to get at the little bugs too... the purslane might have lured them there but they may have also gotten some bugs out of the soil.

This year the purslane is growing from the cracks and odd places like in the middle of the lawn. I don't like lawn anyway, so it's good to find the purslane. Although, we haven't been eating much of it this year either, since I don't know if the dogs have been watering it!

Thank you for the link, Linda. Thumbs up

Purslane is so full of nutrients! Like the article said, one of the few with Omega 3, plus plenty of Vitamin E and so much more!

Makes me want to go out and gather some! I think I will for supper tonight. Smiling
