This is always my "inspiration thread"! You-all have such beautiful seedlings, and I just hope that when mine finally do bloom I can have even one that is half as beautiful as yours! Fred, I really love those yellows! I'm always drawn to the teeth, of course, but those luscious ruffles are sure growing on me!!!

Rolling on the floor laughing That is totally funny -- I have absolutely no room in any bed and have at least a couple hundred in pots -- and I'm about to receive about 100 iris rhizomes over the next month! This gal never knows when to quit -- so I just keep moving things around... nodding

Fred - How short a scape is "too short" for you? Just wondering. I personally don't care for scapes shorter than 24 inches.

I don't either Debra. I would prefer 28" and taller.

Cindy - Scapes on new intros seem to be getting taller and taller. When I first got into daylilies, I liked the ones I bought to mostly be between 26 and 28 inches. Now I find myself liking full forms taller. I especially want my UFs and spiders to be 36 inches or taller.

I am like the rest of you, I like all daylilies to be above the foliage a few inches. I think you have to look at the whole plant when it comes to scape height. Strength and hight of the scape, size of the flower, and the foliage all need to be in proportion. The daylily HB42 has a 6" bloom and the scape is only 20" tall. If it was on a 26-30 inch scape it would have been registered long ago. I have used this seedling for several years and it doesn't produce short scapes because half of the parentage is BOUNDLESS BEAUTY a tall daylily from Stamile. It is also very fertile both ways and I have used it with all colors and eye and edge. Here are a few that were new this year with it somewhere in the parentage.

Fred, I put L. Clockwork Orange in a 7 gallon pot because I was out of 5 gallons. It's really tall in that pot. I never even considered that using the bigger pots would put the height up so much but it raises them up about 6 inches higher than the 5 gallon pots. She has been so very pretty. She just nearly has a ruffle all the way around that is narrow but it looks so good being narrow. It highlights the rest of the petal instead of taking so much attention to the edge. I'm fast becoming a serious fan of her. She is on her fourth rebloom scape. I've never had rebloom like this and I love it.

I am curious about something. Does your plants of LCO have little seed pods? Mine are really small. They appear to be good, I haven't harvested any yet, just small. In fact, they look like a little bity fat pumpkin that has been squished down. The ribs are very defined. Man, they are hard to describe. I'll just have to get a picture of them later. Come to thank of it, I've got several other plants that have pods like this. Halloween Trick, my seedling "Elizabeth Salter x unknown" this one is an orange also. That's the ones that I can think of right now.

My pods on LCO are like yours also. Some daylilies produce pods like that, I have several.

I have most of my seeds planted already. Me and Kim both have 10 seed trays done and I probably will do one or 2 more today. Then all I will have is the few that I'm waiting on to ripen.

When I walked around the garden this morning I noticed that LL&A had the same pods. I'm so looking forward to those little black seeds of gold giving me some fantastic babies. Thanks for the info on the pods. I figured that was correct, but just wanted to confirm.

I have had some HUGE pods only have one or two seeds and a few have been loaded with seeds. That's one thing about daylily seed, you can't count those seeds before breaking open the pods. They will fool you every time!!
