Do you pay attention or come up with a plan on how you "arrange" your cultivars in your gardens?

Do you do "blue" daylily beds, "yellows" etc, hodgepodge or ?

I'm starting to move things around (DH built me another daylily bed where a tree came down). I'm tempted to just move some of my favorite plants to this new area, but it would be quite a color riot.

Let me know what you do please?

Thanks!

In the majority of my gardens, I have no color scheme. I have one bed that is a "dip" bed. And one bed that is a totally red bed (I just love reds) but everything else, has no color scheme -whether it is a daylily or iris bed. The only thing I try to do is put the taller ones in the back. I am in the slow process of building and acquiring plants for a patriotic bed, too.

Eventually I expect that I will start sorting things out more - but it is too hot to even think about it this season. ~Jan

I'm big on color schemes.

Do you belong to AHS?

The last 4 journals have article by moi on color schemes!

The latest idea for a section of my cottage garden is apricot/melon/salmon with maroon. Background plant is Maroon Ninebark.

Still switching and adding a few things to the yellow/blue gardens.

Oh, here are some ideas on youtube from moi!

Oh I wish I did but I don't. I do have a small section though that I call my candy garden and it has a few of the candy daylilies in it.

At my old place I just sorted according to registered height mostly. I did however, on the side of the house, do one bed with the colors going from yellow, orange, pink, red, to purple.
Now I just have the hybridizing area plus one other bed for show flowers. The show bed is sorted in form/size; mini, small, large, extra large, doubles, spider, UFs. That way it would be easier to know what is what when cutting the scapes for shows instead of trying to figure out which class they go in.

My whole yard is just a riot of color! I juhave reds next to purples oranges next to pinks yellows next to oranges etc. it just seems to work.
Every now & then I'll decide 2 plants don't work well next to each other and have to move one, but mostly it works.
It's my cats world, I'm just here to open the cans.

Mine are loosely grouped. One bed has light colors. The largest has reds and purples. Bought a slew of both colorways to see which would do best in our conditions. Keeping the ones I really like and rehoming the others. The other beds are mixed perennials and the interspersed daylilies are coordinated to the other plants' colors.
It’s okay to not know all the answers.

I am on the iPad, so will be brief, as typing on it is a challenge.

I used to have sales beds by alphabet. An A bed, B bed etc.

Then I tried purposefully arranging them.

Honestly, the alphabet beds looked just as nice as ones with lots of thought.

When I was still working, I always worked second shift, so I was going out at 2 p.m. to go to work. I hated looking at slicked dark daylilies. So, I moved almost all the yellow, peach, pink ones to the front bed that I would see mid afternoon, as those colors hold up well to sun and heat. I put the reds, rose, purple ones on the west side, where they are shaded till about noon. I like it this way. I am able to see the darker ones at their best a few more hours that way.

I have some in the mixed perennial beds too. But the majority are in rows in areas of the bed with only daylilies.

I don't have a stragedy. I just try to make sure two of the same color are not next to each other. I like a jumble of colors all mixed together.

The only thing organized in my garden is the bumble bee that I have to race every morning. He/she always seems to win. My beds were originally planted by height, but since none of them seem to bloom at the correct height, that was a bit of a waste of time. I like Rita's plan of not putting two same colors next to each other.

Sometimes though, I think that I should have given the gardens more thought. Maybe that way I wouldn't be redoing them all the time. The neighbors say everything looks perfect, but sometimes it all gets on my nerves and I have to change most of it! Still, I never put two plants together that are the same color! Come to think of it, other than my daylilies, I hardly have two of the same plant next to each other either. Even in my daylily beds, I've got odds and ends of other plants stuck in there, just to break things up a little.

I have no organization at all -- I plant them as I get them....but for some reason it all turns out okay (In my mind!!) Blinking
