Received my order from Suttons. I had ordered two of the new introductions: AUTUMN BREEZE and TIME BANDIT, but I got a refund on TIME BANDIT because they said they are unable to supply it. Bummer! However, Mike Sutton was extremely generous with his gift plants -- I had given them a "wish list" for bonus plants, and he sent 4 more new introductions (FRUITED PLAIN, PACIFIC CREST, RUBY MOON and ACCESSORIZED) plus four of the best ones I had put on my list. I had also ordered 7 other rhizomes, so he ended up matching the number of plants I ordered with gift plants. SWEEEEET!

Most of my orders won't come until August because I get them from growers in the midwest. We're suffering through such heat and drought that it may be September before I can put anything in the ground. If I do get anything earlier, I think I will do exactly what Betty did, and plant them in pots and put them in the shadehouse. I'm glad I read this thread.
susan, I wish there were an economical way to ship pots. I have literally thousands of nursery pots in every size.

I received my Schreiner's order yesterday, and this is the earliest in the summer that I ever remember getting my order. And they are such nice people at Schreiner's! I had ordered the new introduction ALSEA FALLS, which I have been waiting for them to introduce since 2009, but when I opened the box I found ABIQUA FALLS instead. So I called last night and left a message. and they returned my call first thing this morning. She said they employ high school students during the summer and she thinks whoever packed the order just grabbed the first "A" that ended with "Falls". Sounds about right to me. So they're going to send ALSEA FALLS to me next week and she told me to keep the ABIQUA FALLS (one of my favorite blues that I already have, so I'll just add this rhizome to the others).

Wonderful service at Schreiner's! And they sent wonderful rhizomes too! I just wish I could say the same for Sutton's -- small, dry rhizomes with about 1/2" to 1" of roots attached -- even the one I paid $50 for! And they're falling over in the pots! I'll have to consider that before ordering from Sutton's again. But I do love their fall/winter reblooming introductions!

Thanks Cindi, I appreciate the thought! Green Grin! I found someone selling used ones on eBay 50 for 12.99, so far that is the best deal I have seen. She said they are in very good condition. I need to check out her feed back.

Betty every year I order plants from different growers it never fails that I get a few that are the wrong ones at least you got one with the wrong tag so you can get it corrected this year, its horrible when you plant it and look forward to seeing it bloom and it turns out to not be the right one, I have even had a couple that didnt bloom the first year so I waited 2 years to see it and it was not the right one now that is a way to get the blood pressure up real quick but on the other hand I have also had some nice surprises as well so I guess it can work both ways sometimes. Alesa Falls was my favorite of the Schreiners intros this year it really was impressive and they had some really nice seedlings from it. Im just curious if you contacted Suttons about the quality of the bulbs most growers will make it right either refund your money or better yet send you replacement plants especially on 50 dollar bulbs.

Iwonder if a lot of iris arriving might be smaller than usual. Drought etc bothering a lot of plants.

I didn't contact Sutton's, and I'll just wait and see how they do. I've gotten really dry ones before from them, and they grew and bloomed just fine. But these seemed a little smaller this year, and I realize we're in drought conditions and they probably had to stop irrigating the fields at some point. Time will tell, for sure. I've been upset before in some years, but so far I've always gotten over it and didn't have a problem because they still bloomed.

I know what you mean Aruba, about waiting 2 years for a bloom, and then not having the right iris. That has happened to me from an iris from Schriners. I contacted them, and even after 2 years, they made it right. I know they charge more then some, but they have really good customer relations. I also had some wrong cultivars from Suttons a few years back, and when I told them, they made it right as well, with multiples of the correct rhizome. The only place I ever had trouble with replacing a wrong iris was Hornbachers, but they are going out of the iris business.

I got my order from Keith Keppel today. I had only ordered 3 from him, and I got 3 extra. I had ordered Joviality, Strawberry Shake, and Lord Of Mayfair. I got Sea Cruse, Enter the Dragon, and Revision as bonuses. They are all really nice big and healthy looking rhizomes. Now if the weather settles down a bit and lets them take hold, things will be good!

Yes, it's supposed to be an improvement on Brillilant Idea. We're having a cool wave today, only 92! Maybe I'll brave the heat and go do some planting??? I think not, maybe after the sun goes down a bit.

I received my order from Keith Keppel yesterday -- and WOW! I had originally ordered 12 and emailed him last month to see if he had any SECRET WEEKEND he could sell, and he said he thought he could do it so that brought my order up to 13 rhizomes. And when I got the box yesterday, he had added 10 gift rhizomes! He is such a generous person!!! And he knows that I love Barry Blyth irises too, so the gift rhizomes were a combination from both hybridizers. FANTASTIC! Love Keith Keppel! Hurray!
