DO you have variegated plants of totally different species that kinda look like each other?
I always think that my Plumeria 'Maya'
Thumb of 2019-10-01/Gina1960/5bbb04

kind of resembles this Dieffenbachia (is it Snow Drift? I forgot the name) that grows in my pond

And Calathea warscewiczii
Thumb of 2019-10-01/Gina1960/548134

greatly resembles Heliconia zebrina 'Inca'

The first comparison that comes to mind is
"gold dust Croton"
Croton (Codiaeum variegatum 'Aureo Maculatum')

vs.

Aucuba japonica
Japanese Aucuba (Aucuba japonica)

I have often taken a second look to determine if a plant is a croton or acuba.

Kinda makes you wonder abut the DNA in some of these plants. No wonder they are constantly changing the names these days.

Gina, your 'Maya' is exquisite. Lovey dubby

I am not sure I have ever been seen an Acuba. Are they common down more southerly? I live my Maya....I want her to branch but she has never shown the slightest inclination to bloom.

They need shade in the south or the leaves literally burn and turn black. I think they do better in zone 8. There is one here on the north side of the house but it is not great looking but that side gets neglected so maybe it is my fault.

I know of 1 here in town. It's in a mostly shady spot. The other one I've noticed was more in the open at Troy University in Troy, AL.

How about Caladium vs. Syngonium?
