I would be delighted if any of the three orchids I have had for several years had even a single bud among them.

Sorry to hear that they're not flowering for you, Carol. Why don't you post in the Orchids forum with some details and photos of your plants and we'll see if there is anything that can be done to encourage them to bloom?

Joshua,

Thank you for your sympathy.

Until recently, I lived in an old farmhouse with an unreliable heating system. The three orchids lived in a room whose heat (when the furnace was working) came from an adjacent room.

Six months ago my three orchids and I moved to a retirement community where the heat is much more reliable. Here I suspect that the most important limiting factor is likely to be the availability of sunlight. I have only one sunny windowsill. Two of the orchids live in a northwest-facing window.

A second limiting factor is likely to be the fact that all windows are located above heating air vents. So there will probably be fluctuations in temperature and humidity for the poor orchids.

I think I will wait until I have lived here longer to consider posting. I can't get into artificial lighting, greenhouses, etc. Meanwhile, I will try to be thankful that the leaves of my orchids are fat and happy. Smiling

Carol
