They call it 'Standard' time for a reason. It's the base time from which there is a deviation. If we have to have no time change it should be the STANDARD time, not the ridiculous 'Daylight Saving' time! You can't 'save' daylight. You can only f*** with sleep schedules and irritate people. Benjamin Franklin has been dead for 210 years, it's time to lay his moronic 'Daylight Saving Time' to rest as well. We now have that 'lectricity' stuff and don't have to worry about using candles or whale oil. Leave it at Standard Time. It's the right thing to do.

I respect that but am not sure this can be quantified as right or wrong. Those concepts aren't part of the discussion for me. I believe the discussion should be about what is more beneficial to society as a whole. The clocks have to stop changing to even get to the point where it is discussed where they should be set permanently.

I propose that daylight in the evening is more valuable to society so people can get out and move around after school and work, leading to less sedentary lifestyles. Kids can play for another hour, they need that exercise and social interaction. People are generally more alert in the morning, so driving through the dark after work is more dangerous. These things seems more important to me than limiting the choice to only standard time just because the idea of changing the clocks 2x per year was a bad idea.

I agree with Tiffany, if I had to choose, I'd prefer more daylight hours in the evening. Just this last week I found it annoying that I had to quit working outside by 5pm because it was just too dark to see anything. But that's only because we've had summer weather in the 70s in November.

As I've said, the time change never bothered me at all, I'm definitely in the keep the time changes going camp.

Hey, it happened! You're the 1. I always hoped to meet 1 person who likes changing the clocks. It pleases the depths of my soul to know that there is someone enjoying it. That makes it a little better at least.

I'm not sure if it's a case of 'liking' it as much as just a part of life that I'm so used to and don't really mind to begin with.

I'm with Nancy. Not that I "like" changing the clocks, but on the long list of ways I'd like to see the country change, it's near at the bottom.

The fact is, winter days are short and diddling with the clocks can't change that. Altho I agree with Tiffany in theory, I think it doesn't entirely apply to folks in snowy or icy climates where they're not going to be playing outside in the evening regardless of the light. I'd wager a guess they'd prefer a bit more light while driving to work on icy roads (Pure speculation on my part).

Being retired, it no longer affects me like it did when I was desperate for some garden time after work, but I do fondly remember the elation of having that first week of extended daylight every spring.

I am with the scientists on this one:
https://aasm.org/american-acad...
I want to keep standard time. Evening light is not as important as morning light.
I am no fan of kids going to school in the dark, either.

With a permanent switch to DST they are predicting an increase in cancers, obesity, and depression. Especially in shift workers who have the early shift at work. And those are normally low-wage workers. So, once again, society kicks the poor in the teeth. Sad

Dark in the morning has never bothered me but coming home in the dark just is not something I like. As for driving in the snow much rather be out there in the morning as the roads are better taken care of because of school , after 6pm they do much less. Do not understand why having more light at night would cause depression and obesity as you would have more time to be active after work to do things. I will have to look that up.

Here isone such study but it may be a bit complicated:
https://aacrjournals.org/cebp/...
Here is the quote that cites the above article:
"Permanent daylight savings time; however, is not recommended by the scientific community. Studies have shown that residing on the most western border of time zones, which is similar to being on daylight savings time, is associated with increased risks for cancer. Rather permanent standard time is the optimal solution."

I prefer standard time all year, but the business world won't let that happen, so next best preference is the present system.

hogwash! leave things alone and stop fooling with "our" clocks. I leave for work in the dark and drive home in the dark and I just hate it. All it does here on the atlantic coast is make people pissed, cranky and angry. The drivers are more aggressive and nasty-well people around here generally are but add the stupid time change and everything goes haywire. They kids don't care if they stand in the dark-they have their faces planted in their screens anyway. I would love a few minutes of day light after work. Nobody I know likes the time change-everyone dreads it like the plague.

I think one of the advantages of the clocks changing is that it reminds us that time is just a concept that we all agree to. A lot of people think the world they live in is all there is, and forget we are just a bunch of animals scratching out a life on a rock hurtling through space. It is nice to be reminded once a while that society is basically an illusion, and the silliness of our human ways.

The time change does that for me. Lifts the veil for a second, and makes me chuckle how silly we all are as a species. Hilarious!

Is anybody else as excited as I am about the change next weekend? I was so bummed when it got dark when I was having so much fun taking plants outside yesterday. FINALLY we (most of us, I hope!) will be able to go outside after work & not just on the weekends.

Can't wait and after the change just leave it that way as far as I'm concerned.
