Hey Mikey, didn't mean to ignore you. Your question confused me tho. Did you mean germinating them in soil? Shrug! Or to grow them in?

Mary, that's one heck of a day. Hope you will have a good and restful weekend.

Thanks for sharing that Sevin is also effective on gnats. I may give it a try this winter.

Thank goodness you and your car were not damaged, Mary.
Several years ago my husband had a wheel pop clean off and it caused the car to veer straight into a tree. It was on a dirt road at 25 mph, so my husband was okay. The car still ran, but the hood never sealed right after that. It could have killed him, had it happened on the highway.

My dad had a wheel come off, too. He actually saw it rolling down the hill ahead of the car. thank goodness he was able to get stopped safely.
My dad loved to tell a good story, and this became one of them!

OMG, this broth I'm making! I just took all the chicken meat off the bones, and put the bones back into the broth to cook them more. Then I'll strain the broth and put it in the fridge overnight so the fat can rise. I bought fresh celery, carrots, and onions, and I have egg noodles. I'll work on it tomorrow cause I am tired! I tip my hat to you.

Mary glad you are ok. That is very scary. Most of these oil change businesses have a high turnover in employees. It is not uncommon to find loose lug nuts and wheels falling off. Even dealerships have the same issues. A general walk around after picking up your vehicle is advised. If you hear something while driving off stop and go back to have things checked. Another issue is no oil being put back into the engine, oil filter improperly installed or the wrong oil filter installed.
My earlier question was what medium do you all start your seeds in. I got my

I germinate my seeds inside a moist paper towel inside a ziplock sandwich bag. Is that what you mean? Or do you mean what brand of dirt I grow them in?( Rolling on the floor laughing )

Ok, more bad news. I'm trying to be brutally honest about this subject, but I had such high hopes! I put the seedlings through another 24 hours of the pest strip treatment. Uncovered them yesterday at 1:30 in the afternoon. Just a little while ago I went down there to get something out of the freezer and stopped by to check on the babies. I saw 3 adult fungus gnats flitting around the leaves of the seedlings. I'm pretty sure this means the pest strip treatment is a failure. Thumbs down

The next thing I will try is the Sevin. Since I just watered the babies three days ago, I won't do a drench. I'll sprinkle the stuff on the leaves and soil. Hopefully this will get the adult females that are laying their eggs, as well as the newly formed gnats leaving the soil. Sighing!

If this doesn't work, I'll do the Sevin soil drench the next time I water.

Mikey, please let us know how you do with the Gnatrol!

Gnatrol works and so do nematodes, use them both. The rest of the solutions are not solutions, your the only ones going down if your using chemicals. Can you afford the treatments. They are expensive and don't work. So spend the money on nematodes. Don't use the hole pack. Save it in the vegetable crisper. You have about a year and a half to use it. They are in a clay carrier and the package breaths. Use a close pin to keep them closed. Keep them in the original card board box and drop them in a 1 gallon zip lock. Through them in with your lettuce and carrots and celery etc. They will keep.
Heres the problem with fungus knats. They are in your drains. Treat those with the nematodes, they won't mind. They like to eat.
Also the peat media is harvested to often. Lots of sedges in it and this is food for fungus gnats. Inoculate your media before potting seedlings in them. The nematodes will find the offenders in the media.
They are intelligent. Like you. You don't have to drench anything. You know who drenches? People who write about growing plants but don't grow them. An eye dropper of nematodes in solution is enough per pot. Keep shaking the bottle to keep them from settling. Use it all. Use a bottle and eye dropper combo, from the pharmacy. The combo is all you need. Keep it clean, rinse and put it down a drain. Any stragglers will just go to lunch.

frogfan, thanks for your concern, but in what way is the chemical going to hurt me? I'm not going to be eating it, bathing in it, or huffing it. I assure you! Rolling on the floor laughing I tip my hat to you. Rolling on the floor laughing

The gnats in the drain are not fungus gnats, they are a completely different animal. Much bigger and prettier. Psychodidae. Look it up.

@frogfan
I checked out the nematodes and there are some that are reasonably priced online. If I order some now, and they arrive on a day with highs below freezing, are they going to die if they get left in my mailbox for a couple of hours? If UPS or FedEx delivers, they might be out longer, because there's no telling what time they will be dropped off, on the road by the mailbox about 1/8 mile from the house.
Same question regarding Gnatrol - does anyone know? I didn't find that info. online...
