Today I decided to check on the sick adenium I'm trying to nurse back to health for my mom. It has been hanging, I don't know, about a month and a half? Anyway. There is more root rot.

This is the front view, pretty bad: Thumb of 2012-08-12/MamaIve12/cf36f0

This is the back view, not so bad: Thumb of 2012-08-12/MamaIve12/766087

I checked the roots, and one of them basically broke off my hand. I decided to cut it, and see how far the root went. The cut piece is on the side.

Since it looked pretty decent, I decided to pot it up:

But now I don't know if I should give up on the plant. I cut more into the caudex, and as you can see, the damage is extensive:

What do I do now? Crying

Hi Ive, even though it looks bad it still has a chance to recover. Let it plenty of air to dry out the rotted area, as soon as you see it is completly dry try peeling it off than let it dry a little more before planting it again.

now the other one that looks like only caoude was left, check and see if can see if there any area on it were a leaf used to be at, if there is none than try to graft a piece of another plant into it. I say this because if there is no leaf outlet on the caudex it won't grow anymore and eventualy rot away. hope this helps you.

Well, I'll try to operate again, and hang it back up.

I really thought it was coming along. *Blush*

Hi Robert, I use rocks just for the bottom, and the top. There is actually soil in there. Smiling

Wilfred, I didn't keep digging yesterday; so I'll hang the plant back up again. I'm kind of bummed about the root part, since I've never tried to graft anything in my life. I'll look and see if I can cut off a piece from another of my adeniums, just to give it a try.

Haha, I have a root that's been green and sitting there for nearly a year now. Hahaha, I think it's funny as can be, a root. I'll post a photo in a few days...

Well, it was my mom's lesson. Rolling my eyes. That poor adenium spent weeks sitting in water before I rescued it.

I was just trying to nurse it back to health. Lived, learned and moving on.
