Oops. Looking back a few posts, I see that I said I was going to post a link to order plants from the Houston Audubon and Edith L. Moore Nature Sanctuary sale. Well I plumb forgot. Sorry. However, I'm confident that any of y'all who were waiting on that link would be totally capable of finding it without my help.

I've just been 'sheltered in place' since mid-March and I'm wondering if it's time to give up on looking for Spring Plant Sales. Although, if you google 'spring plant sales' you might find '75 Catchy Spring Sales and Advertising Slogans'. Like this one - "In the spring I have counted one hundred and thirty-six different kinds of weather inside of four and twenty hours." Sounds like Texas to me.

Hopefully not too late but I found this just now.

SFA Pickup Plant Sale
Posted 2020-05-04 09:11:00 by SFA

We have gotten permission from the university to hold a pick-up plant sale featuring many plants that our students started growing for classes before the shutdown. We know that with life interrupted, many of you want to be gardening, and we are happy that we have the opportunity to help you with that endeavor.

We will host this pick-up plant sale from 12 pm–2 pm Monday May 4 and 12 pm–2 pm Friday May 8.

We have posted pictures of the plants we have for sale on our website along with our availability. On our website https://www.horticultureisawes..., you will find an order form. Fill it out for what you want, email it to [email protected], and you will get a confirmation email once your order is filled.

4 packs are $3, a tray of 12 is $32 ($4 discount)
3-inch pots are $2, a tray of 18 is $32 ($4 discount)

Our Plantery team will collect what you want, put it in trays, and place it on the curb near the Plantery greenhouse so that you can pick it up while social distancing. We are not letting anyone inside our greenhouse or headhouse at this time.

Our team members will be on hand to help direct you to your order. They will also be wearing masks and gloves.

***WE ASK THAT WHEN YOU COME TO PAY FOR YOUR PLANTS THAT YOU BRING EXACT CHANGE OR A CHECK.*** We want to limit money changing hands. We will have a box into which you will place your payment.

Oh. Not under a lock down anymore? I heard something today about more places being allowed to open starting, I think, on Friday. Of course that doesn't mean that all counties will go along with it.

I'm going to try to reference the SFA sale in the list in case someone doesn't read through this whole thread. I've been looking at some of the pictures posted on the website and the colors pop right out at you.

I also added a June 20th event hosted by the Denton County Master Gardeners and the City of Denton. Not sure if there will be plants for sale or if this is a 'Best in Show' with cash prizes.

The principal problem I might have with the SFA sale is that for me
that seems a long way to go to pick up any plants I might like!

@Willinator - well, duh. I know I couldn't have either. I have a hard time going to local sales (when they still existed) because they start at the crack of dawn and I don't. The few I've actually made it to on scheduled start time were often sold out. Last year I drove to Arlington, about a 20 minute drive on a Sat. morning, to a sale that is always good. As I was driving in to park, I saw so many people leaving with little wagons full of plants. Sinking feeling. @Frostweed was there and she helped me find a plant or 2 (don't remember) that might work for me. So much for my list of 'wanna's. Her husband Frank (who is as nice as she is) was there to take my money. As I was walking to my car I spotted one of those trucks that sell ice cream and popsicles. At least that was a nice treat.

I would absolutely love to go to the sale in Uncertain. But it's been decades since I've been in a canoe. Plus it would be a long drive to get there and even longer as I might get lost trying to find Uncertain. Just not sure. Smiling

You're welcome and thanks for the heads up about May 30th. I looked at their website and it didn't say. I'm hoping that the Dallas NPSOT sale is still on. I messaged them but haven't checked for an answer yet. Maybe some nearby group will have a last minute sale. East Dallas NPSOT usually waits until the last minute. Maybe I'll send them a message.

Another sale canceled. The Dallas chapter of NPSOT has had to cancel their upcoming sale. I think that's about it for my neck of the woods.

Well it does look like that all the events in May have just about cancelled.
So we will see if anything happens in June??

@TexasBluebonnet - Thanks for that info. I'll look into it. Let me know if you find out anymore about it.

Last night I read where one of the NPSOT groups is going to do a plant swap at a member's house. So I'm guessing it's only going to be for members. And even though the shelter-in-place is easing up a little, seems like keeping 6' away at a plant swap would be difficult. Or take a lot of planning.

@Willinator - the Mercer in Houston is planning one sale around Father's Day in June and one sale in July. Might have to wait until Fall but at least it's a good time for planting.

Will I make a list for Fall? Really don't know. The one for Spring really was a booger. There were more sales then ever. And then I had to go back and cancel most everything. It was very discouraging.

Well part of the question will be what plants the Mercer might put in the sales in June or July.
It will fall in the hottest parts of the summer for Houston, TX so it should be interesting. Of
course the really hot weather usually continues right into October so it will be interesting
what we might be able to plant.

I found the info about the sale at Texas Discovery Gardens at Fair Park in Dallas.

5/28 - 6/1 Unless more time slots open up, only times left are on 6/1.

This year will understandably look a little different than years before! With respect to community health, we have put into place a time slot system that will allow only 5 people into the sale at a time. You can sign up for a time under our "events" page at https://txdg.org/plant-sale.

Please arrive no sooner than 15 minutes before the start of your time, you will have the full hour to browse and purchase plants.
(Members will receive 10% off their selections at checkout!)

The safety of our community is our highest priority, we ask that you wear a mask when you are inside our gates.

"Shop online ahead of Father's Day weekend to get the perfect gift for dad on Saturday, June 13, and Sunday, June 14. Dads love plants too!

The Mercer Society is excited to add more than 100 varieties of gingers to the online store, including some ultra-rare specimens. The virtual plant sale features a wide variety of Mercer Grown plants, including annuals and perennials, edibles, roses, Gulf Coast natives, and trees and shrubs!

Mercer Grown plants are cultivated at Mercer's Horticultural Propagation Center greenhouses. Online shoppers will receive instructions in their order confirmation to retrieve orders the week after the virtual plant sale ends. All orders are pickup ONLY, as the plants cannot be shipped. "
