Were you able to root these over the winter? They are not hardy for my zone and I really hate to loose this plant. Looks like you just cut off stems?

Yes, Susan I take cuttings in the fall and just stick them in water. It gets changed at least once a week. They are really easy...some cuttings take longer then others, but I just let them do their thing.

Yes, Alda, I root them in water. Can't really say how long it takes as I've never made note of it. Some are very quick and others take longer. All I can say is by spring almost all have nice healthy roots. Smiling

Hurricane Ida knocked mine down and killed one so I chopped them all to the ground (they had new, stronger sprouts) and put 9 cuttings from the old growth in very light soil and they all mildewed and rotted. I'm assuming this has to do with the stems being hollow. I just took another cutting (only one with no flowers on it) from the actively growing recovered plants and placed it in a glass of water to see if that makes a difference. I trimmed the very large leaves down by half and the cutting has two nodes in water.

Welcome! Josef !!!
I always cut mine back this time of year and root them in water. We get at least one hard freeze in winter here...by taking cuttings I know I'll have some for next year. Be patient and you should get roots 👍
