Another seedling for serious consideration. I going to try one more time ........
I'd like to pay tribute to Barry Blyth in a small way, by using his hybrids to create more beauty for gardeners to enjoy, if i introduce it. Awards, recognition, Symposium lists, be damned! -- i don't care about such things.

kinda short 32", 2 close branches and a spur, 6-9 buds, mid late season, good substance, and weather resistance, light, sweet fragrance -- reminiscent of cotton candy/lilacs. Seem to be hardy enough, having gone to a single digit cold spell with no snow cover. Slow increaser tho. That alone may doom it, but i'll give it one more year. Form isn't as broad as i like, but we'll see. Color scheme is very similar to other Blyth intros, like Gates of Rome, Crowns for Credit, and others, so that'll have to be factored in, as well.

38", 2 wide branches and a spur, 7-11 buds, mid late season, good substance, and weather resistance, light, musky fragrance. Hardy and a rapid increaser. -- Downside -- fades badly1 :(
see below. Prolly doomed as a candidate, but will be kept as a parent

37", 3 wide branches and a spur, 7-11 buds, mid late season, stiff substance and wrx resistance, light, sweet taffy like fragrance. Nice rolling ruffles that don't obscure the form. Hardy, but a slow increaser. -- Perfect show branching! See below

I humbly present this request to the forum:
Constructive respectful comments/observations/criticisms on these seedlings are welcome. Rants about how much you hate/dislike/"abhor" them are emphatically not. Although i can't prevent that from happening, such responses are offensive to me and a slap in the face considering the work and effort i put into bringing my seedlings to flower good or bad. I just want to share my work. If you think you can bring better to the iris world, then get hybridizing! I, for one, would be glad to see your work. :)
I re - iterate. Under CONSIDERATION only. No seedling selection schooling, education, or training needed == thank you

Very nice!! I do have a serious question, does slow increaser mean just one or two increases per year?

I like the wide falls, and how the ruffles are set off by the lighter colored undersides of the falls, and the rich velvety texture of the top side of the falls. I always enjoy a nice blush of color on standards like this one has. It does remind me a lot of one of Barry Blyth's other irises called "Hold My Hand", although your's has more of a pink cast to the standards.

I love any iris (or flower) that has the velvet look to it, as this does. Thumbs up
Edit: Tom, you said it better than I did.

i consider anything less than four increases a year to be slow -- that is only my definition and im applying that only to my work. The dark purple seedling ive shown typically has 3-4 offshoots a year. I've bloomed it since 2014. If it had only 2, per year than it would be trashed

Your observations are very true, Tom -- thats what giving me pause in my consideration process of the Fashionista seedling. In any case, I'll keep it as a parent. It has enough good traits for that at least

Oh, "Thunderboomer" is really, really nice. Very dark and dramatic with a bright beard.

I also really like the In Love Again X Mt Vesuvius cross. I was not bothered by the faded color in the second photo, when viewed on its own, but I do wonder how a whole clump would look. Thinking Still, the unfaded color is of course better.

OK, that's weird, When I responded to your post there was only one iris in it, you must have added the other two while I was responding. Hilarious!
I like the yellow one a lot, both the faded and unfaded version.

Thunderboomer is really super, one I'd order in a minute.

I may be weird, and it's just my opinion, I really like the faded one, I think it give a clump interest when some blooms are bright and some are fading. This seedling has a pretty fade. Drooling I like everything about this iris.

I think from here on out, i'll make sure to photo clumps/whole stalks of my individual seedlings, if possible. That'll give people an idea of how it performs in a garden setting, or to see if my observation notes are correct. Here is a clump of my Southern Morning in bloom

36" 2 branches, 6-7 buds, mid late season to late. Attractive broad blue green foliage. Large flowers measure 7"+ top to bottom. Not a fan of the haft marks, but the one distinguishing feature of this seedling is a strong licorice fragrance. Stronger scent than i've ever smelled in a TB iris. For that reason alone its being considered, the color doesn't particularly send me, but the fragrance does!

Tim, how many seedlings are in your garden at this time? I'm hoping to see my first seedlings this spring. Can't wait until April!

Gorgeous clump of Southern Morning. I tip my hat to you.

You set a high standard for an iris that you deem a slow increaser. A lot of cultivars
that I grow put out fewer than four increases a year - in fact, I think that applies to most of
them. Hm.

thanks Andrea -- fortunately Southern Morning is a rapid increaser and can overwhelm a small spot, given the chance. The odd thing is, I no longer have it! I'm going to have to buy it back from somebody, or hope i can find a forum member that has it. Now THATS embarrasing!
