I've previously shown pictures of my rosulatum that has some confusion about its identity (normal/cristate/monstrose). The flower spikes that "twinned" finished flowering and then decided to grow leaves. It looks like it's trying to turn into a stem.
Thumb of 2022-05-27/Wildbloomers/2298ce
There is another one doing the same thing. The flower spikes were upright until they finished flowering and then each one developed this bend with leaves on the top edge. I can't wait to see how this develops. The normal bloom spikes on this plant didn't do this, they just dried up and fell off.

I'm kind of pumped that geayi is going to flower this year, for the first time. This is about the best shot I could take with my hands way over my head, and even then it's hardly obvious what is going on. I will need to visit the neighbor's house when it's further along and get a shot from overhead.

So far at least two seed pods are starting to mature on my P. gracilius pollination from this year! Waiting to see here in the next week if the others were fertilized, I am hopeful I'll get at least 2 more seed pods!

When I get a full count of how many pods I have I will take a waitlist for seed sale/trades for P. gracilius if people want them!!

And bonus shot here of a tomato volunteer, doing well despite zero rain since March... obviously a (somewhat) distant beneficiary of the sofiense, which gets a gallon a week.

The stem of sofiense has more of a bottle shape than the typical cigar shaped stems of geayi and lamerei.

First lamerei flowers to (mostly) open this season... a lot of low clouds/fog as is typical for this time of year, so they have been taking their time. But the big reveal is here.

Not sure what it is, but there were several. This was the only one that paused long enough to pose for a photo. Smiling

The bug is a Thrip. They are a sucking insect.
You can kill them with soapy water or alcohol.
They really like flower buds and cause brown edges to the flowers when they open.
Thrips are a curse for orchid growers.
They also like my Ficus tree and the leaves stay folded closed with a nest inside the fold.

Hi, I'm new to this website and also new to plants. But I have recently tried to plant pachypodium gracilis. Just wondering if anyone is able to share with me if it is normal that i still don't see anything growing underneath the clear wrap after 2 weeks? I think i did everything that I found online.

I just noticed your post 3 weeks later, and I realize it's probably too late by now, but I would recommend leaving the seeds for several weeks. Germination can be unpredictable but there is nothing to lose by waiting a little longer. If nothing has occurred after 2-3 months, maybe think about trying again/differently. The atmosphere in there under the plastic is nice and humid, right?

Welcome!

P. sofiense on the patio with some nice subtle colors

Pachypodium saundersii. One of the pink ones just starting to bloom. None of the others have even started to bud. Normal flowering for these plants at my home is late September - October. And, yes it was raining.

I have two clones of Pachypodium windsori. One has wavy leaf edges and one has straight leaf edges. The second, third and fourth pictures are of the plant on the left in the first picture. The last two pictures are of the plant on the right. The plant on the right has a better flower with overlapping petals but I can't find a picture. They flower weeks apart. If they ever flower at the same time I'll cross them. Thumb of 2022-09-11/Wildbloomers/405378
