These guys sure have been fun...and interesting...grown from seeds of the hybrid Echium 'Mr. Happy'...the ones grown in the front yard have been the expected pink...and, as we noticed last year, there were two different types of leaves, large leaves and narrow leaves...as, Strever said, "look like two different plants..."
The large leaves produced the flower stalks that shoot up higher than the roof, flowers on the narrow leaf stalks are about 4' tall.
These, pictured here, have Lavender colored flowers and the two types of leaves also...but they are in the back of the property that's not as protected and got hit with frost...totalled the large leaves, didn't faze the narrow leaves.....so the narrow leaf stalks got the same 4' flower stalks and the large leaf stalks are bare.....today while weeding in there, I see that the bare, large leaf stalks are putting out new leaves...will they now flower...a bit later...and will they get as tall?
In any case, they are fun and the bees are happy.....
