But you can't become too obsessed by the seed addiction. To avoid that you have to occasionally buy actual plants. So today I ordered 3 sale plants from Santa Rosa. Shrug!

But, but, but, Karen, how can you winter sow actual plants? Green Grin!

You can't. But one doesn't preclude the other. Smiling I've planted my available garden space many times over.... and over...and over. Plant it, grow it, compost it. Repeat process.

There's a never- ending world of plants out there to try. Some will grow from seed, some not. So many plants, so little time.

Yes, seed hoarders are also plant hoarders too.
I am hoarding geraniums (pelargoniums) by potting them down into 4 inch peat pots.
15 of these fit nicely in my Rubbermaid boxes. The boxes go in the windows until next spring.
I do this 1. because I am cheap and
2. the store bought geraniums are usually sprayed with dwarfing chemical.
These over wintered ones have outgrown the spray and will grow more naturally.

I don't really have enough natural light in my house to grow anything. And space on light shelves is limited. But pelargonium are very easy from cuttings.

But, it's also one that's readily available around here in spring- nice sized plants in 4" pots- pretty cheap. So I haven't kept any over winter the last few years.

Caroline--can you tell me how you overwinter your pelargoniums? I have several scented geraniums I would love to overwinter if possible, but don't know the first thing about it. Feel free to tree-mail me so we don't take this too far off-topic.

I guess that depends on whether you count collecting, drying, cleaning and labelling seeds from my own garden as part of the addiction.

For a while, I was too busy to buy more seeds.

I guess that is only "abstaining" in the sense of "I didn't drink any moonshine that I hadn't distilled myself."

Then picture me laying down under the condensing coil with it dripping directly into my mouth.

THAT kind of abstaining!
