If you registered for the Lilyauction, then you are in big trouble now. Especially during the coming winter when you can't garden and are bored.

And THAT is why I'm NOT part of the LA.

I was doing great, being good, about 7 years ago. Only buying a few cheaper plants on the Lily Auction. Then one day, long long ago, I clicked on the "Seeds" on the auction. BOOOOOOOOM WHAAAAAAM!!!! I could buy seeds from the newest and best daylilies for just a few dollars. Most of you know the rest of the story, but for the beginners. I now have over 1500 pots of seedlings and hybrids. So, tread lightly on the Auction or you too, will be repeating my story in a few short years.

Just so you'll know, I love the Auction. I love growing daylilies from seed. The first time you see that little green point breaking up through the soil, you too, will be hooked. It's amazing. Then you will find yourself thinking about growing your own seed. It becomes an ever bigger thrill when it's your own seed growing. So, have fun, no matter what. Even if you just grow your plants for the beauty they add to the garden. You will also have loads of fun seeing those happy blooms each day.

Thanks Betty! I have everyone written down and will try to mark them as favorites or saved sellers or something.
Betty, can you winter sow Daylily seeds? I might like to try a few just to see what happens!

There are people here who are experts in this and I am not, but I do know that some people here even sow and germinate their seeds inside over the winter if it gets really cold where they live. I live in an area where it rarely if ever freezes, so I planted my first seeds last December in seed flats outside and then moved them to 4" pots in the spring. But they won't bloom for the first time until next year, so this year I'm trying to get to the point where my new seedlings might bloom next spring/summer so I planted them in August and a whole bunch have germinated and are almost ready for the 4" pots.

Michele, if you're around why don't you jump in here, since I really got much of my information from you, Fred and Lyle along the way. And I'm sure you'd have great advice for Susan.

There is a thread discussing sellers on LA, but I can't remember the thread title.

Make sure you make use of the 'search closed auctions' box at the top right. It shows you whatever the plant you typed in has sold for, if at all. It really helps get an idea of when to stop price wise. Always remember there are never a shortage of daylilies. Top left you can type in what plant your looking for to see if its on the auction. Dont forget the stores. Plants are set price, but lots of good ones. Also, they have a items wanted list. Just type in the cultivar your looking for and they will email you when one is listed. Homer, your in hybridzer territory. Smith/Harry, Harry, Hansen, floyde cove, lambertsons, our close to so many. Come spring, the eye candy will abound.

Mike (or other personel) has to verify you so it may take a day or so. Mike and the others have regular jobs and other duties besides the lily auction so give them a little time.
