Nothing new in bloom here, except some additional spikes or whatever this one is! Smiling
Bulbophyllum saurocephalum shows off with another spike and one of the previous spikes was pollinated.

Bill brought in 3 plants to the university and let me pick my favorite.
I hope I can grow it!
And blooming for the first time Den. jenkinsii. I got this bare root in January from Hamlyn's Orchids.

A pretty thing, blooming out of season. I had taken it from the lanai and had it in my shadehouse yesterday, getting fertilizer with the rest, and a lady came to purchase plumeria. She spotted the orchid. Gone in a flash. Got a photo though.

Where others have so many really rare and/or really exotic varieties, I just keep plugging away with my Cattleya Alliance ones. Whistling

Bill Thoms made the cross and named it after me.
He knows I can grow Cattleya but apparently has some confidence that I can grow bulbos too. It's a lot of pressure.
The spike on this plant was really quite tall 12" - 14" maybe and the flower had to be at least 7" long.

Here comes the judge in me! That Rlc. Shirley Byrne 'NN' is just a gorgeous flower! Beautiful.
That flower is wonderfully proportioned, with gorgeous petals and a fantastic lip! And to top it off, you could not place those 'darts' any better.
That is a AM easily! Boy Ken, I hope you got well paid for that one.
If I look at recent records and see what I suspect to be the case, I could even consider that for an FCC! I just love it that much. Man, that flower stands out in my mind as one of the best semi-Alba's I have seen in the last twenty years!! It is that good!
An FCC comes down the road about as often as a 'Chicken with false teeth'!!!!

Thank you for the wonderful critique of that orchid, Bill. I don't sell for profit, just for fun. $20, just like the rest of my orchids. Too little, huh?

No it is not!
But if I saw that on a sales table and saw $100 on the tag, I would not hesitate one second! My previous high for a plant is $55.
But if that garnered an award, either an AM or an FCC, the price could start at $300. "You have to strike while the iron is hot".
It depends on the Show, the traffic, etc. but it is a stunner!

I've never presented an orchid for judging, Bill. Perhaps never will.

Well, congrats are in order for Lindsey and Ken. Lindsey for the honor of having her name out there for all time associated with a cool orchid. WooHoo, way to go girl. Ken you get the congrats for growing what would likely have been an award winner! I would have snatched that orchid in a skinny minute also.

Nothing wrong in that.

I just love judging! The training, the people, the shows, the exhibits, etc. but my favorite part is judging with club members on my team. You get to meet so many nice people. You get to talk Orchids, a chance to enlighten, share knowledge, and most of all talk orchids!
I just get such enjoyment out of it.

It gets a little corny I know. But I try to be really positive with my impression that I make on people I meet for the first time. I can "leave a bad taste in their mouth" OR I can leave them with, "Man, I really enjoyed that guy!"
I much prefer the later and the effort in both cases is the same. That pretty much sums up Bill the judge.
