oh thank you, thank you Lovey dubby
It is nearing time to chop this corner up for winter. Meaning, just, tear apart the plantings in the pot and make manageable sizes for winter inside. And brug cuttings. I'm a little stoked to have 'my' corner back for my plants in the basement. Son moved his weight bench out. Hm. Maybe give hubby a project, make a new bench or shelves for plants.
Plant it and they will come.

What will I get if I chop this trunk in half? There's 8 inches below the bud on the right, and more than 12 above it. It looks a little funny being so long. But I can plant it deep and surround it with other potted plants. Better off leaving it in one piece?

should I let it dry if I cut it? Or plant right away? I have back up young ones if it turns disastrous.
Plant it and they will come.

@sallyg, I don;t have fancy propagation methods LOL. I don't do water...rooting in water is a transitional step that IMHO is totally unnecessary and can actually create more problems rooting the plant than just putting it into the soil media you intend to grow it in.
If comething is specifically known to be hard to root, I will place it in moist sphagnum moss. Because that is an actual SUBSTRATE that makes the plant's new roots tougher when they have to wend their way through it to seek water. Moss rooted plants transition to soil almost seamlessly. For something like these big elephant ear tubers, its been my experience that you can cut them into PIECES and they will still root.

@sallyg hello I have been out of the gardening game for several years now but slowly getting back into it. Your plant is not Portura. Most likely calidora or adora by my observation. And you have done a wonderful job at propagating . Check out some of my old posts in "Lest talk about elephant ears" thread .

This year. I planted one trunk starting at the very bottom of the big blue pot, added soil partway, and side shoots are growing.

Prepping for storage, you are mostly seeing the juicy side shoots.

Wow Sally that really filled out nicely, you might have to get two pots next year.

I agree Sally, you have at least two nice sized plants there. I can see them anchoring your corner garden next year or maybe one on each side of the steps?

Wow, such vigorousness in that last pic! I wonder if the space under the deck/porch could be enclosed and serve as a good storage space for some plants? Especially if there is a basement wall at the back.

Shook out the potting mix and plopped into this pot for storage.

I may do this or these in ground next year and do the Brug in the big blue pot. The corner fills up by October!
Thumb of 2022-10-24/sallyg/c8c595
Then I have a full sun hot area. Might be ready to rethink that. The black and blue salvia isn't too happy and I have lots of it else where, happier. The hot bed is hard to keep well watered. Decisions..
Plant it and they will come.

Well the Brugmansia is sure happy in that spot, they are thirsty plants, mine is in part sun and wilts in the hot part of the afternoon. Adorable house and love the fall colors in the background.

My corner is struggling this year. Brug cuttings were awful, finally a Dr Seuss dormant in big pot decided to wake up and outdo all the cuttings. Alocasia is lagging, I stuck extra Crinums in with it. Crinums and a black elephant ear in ground woke up and are doing great. Filled in with assorted pots, its been a confusing year.

It looks good to me. Did you have a longer cold season this year? The heat is taking a toll on us down here.
