I am so intrigued with bees! I love watching them stumble around like they're drunk on nectar. My son is terrified of them, and gets frantic when I get right up close to photograph them. I keep pointing out that it doesn't seem to bother the bees, and they don't bother me. I wish I could get him to share my appreciation for them!

I tried to take a series of shots of a bee inside a datura the other day, but was disappointed to get home and find I didn't have a single clear shot in the bunch. The datura had closed up for the night, but the bees found a way to pry open the spirals and climb inside, where they were practically wallowing in the pollen and getting covered with it. I carefully pried one open and tried to get pictures of the bee inside the spiral of the bloom. Sure wish they'd turned out better!
