Lucy, I am honored to have such a beautiful iris. Wow! That is incredible that you worked with the hybridizer.

So, I moseyed over to the farm before the rain started this morning and was happy to see a new bloom!

We also had another tiller slip. I have some work to do with the soil still. The smaller bed will be lined with my dwarfs and am going to try a perennial seed garden this year. Also putting in some daylilies on order. The big area is my husband's project for a new veggie garden.

I also forgot to post my pink saucer magnolia in full bloom. It went through snow and freezing temps!

Many of us 'smaller hybridizers' exchanged ideas & sometimes plants. We don't work in a vacume.sp? At my age I am no longer really active, but at the beginning the late Bee Warburton was really on our case about trying out new ideas.

Well, the massive rains have finally stopped. We have had dams in the area breeched, lakes emptied, and lots of flooding. We thankfully were not effected by the flooding. The sun is out today and a few things are starting to open. Have lots of buds, too. Hopefully the warm weather that is predicted will get things going!

Bird Call-got as a bonus last year

Well, it is going to be a gorgeous Memorial Day weekend. We can officially be in groups of less than 10. My children are going to get to see their grandparents they haven't seen in 3-4 months. I have a nice 4 day weekend! Yesss!

Lindsay, I've wondered how "orange" Carrot Flash really is. MidAmerica's image is very bright. This looks quite brown. Has it always been this color for you?

Laurie-this is my first year bloom. I don't think it's as bright as the catalog portrays. Still pretty, though. Pic of what it looks like this morning. Appears less vivid to eye. Did not do anything to photo. Taken on my Iphone.

Kind of disappointing when you order a bright orange iris based on the picture, and it ends up fairly dull, but poppies are a reliable orange!

Sometimes too reliably orange! Especially when you keep ordering Beauty of Livermere (blood red) from various nurseries, and they keep blooming mid orange, one after another. These nurseries seem to have all gotten the idea that Beauty of Livermere blooms true from seed. It doesn't. It needs to be propagated by tissue culture or by division.

I didn't know there was an elusive red poppy. Wow! That would be nice to have. These ones are "wild" ones that pop up everywhere in my garden. My true orientals haven't started yet. I just have the basic orange, plum, and pink.

I am home and didn't see too many more buds open. Hopefully tomorrow. It is supposed to be quite warm. Just these:

I took a whiff. Although it smelled nice, it wasn't it. I turned around and spotted a cherry tree we've had for years. That was it! Wish you could smell these blooms!

A red poppy would sure be nice to have, but I would want it to reproduce by seed. I have a pink one. I like to use the seed heads in arrangements. They are so cool! Smiling

The poppy seed head is on left. Also shown: statice, safflower, eucalyptus, willow.
