I have enjoyed this thread immensely. I have gone through all the photos several times. Somehow the white daylilies make me sigh and say "AH". They seem to relax me.

Cindy, your white seedling looks pretty white and has a great form. Congrats.

Betty, thanks for you nice comment about Ice Crystal. I think I am up to 11 fans now and I even have two rebloom scapes on two of them right now. I hope they get to bloom before cold weather does them in. Thanks for posting the photo of Voila Francois. I forgot it when I posted my photos. It is always such a beauty here. I am so sorry that you don't get the edges on your daylilies like others do. We get high humidity and high heat.

Yugo, I almost got lost in your photos. I kept looking at them over and over. You have some fantastic seedlings. Glad you like Ice Crystal.

Fred, I am not a big fan of UF's or spiders, but your white dips are really growing on me.

Dot, you will get your fan of Ice Crystal one of these days. I don't use BAP for increase, so it takes a while to get enough to register and introduce.

Karin, thanks for your kind comment about Ice Crystal. I know you will really enjoy Snow Crystal. It and Ice Crystal are probably the whitest of my "white" daylilies. After seeing Kennesaw Mountain Sorbet, it is calling me to buy it. Floyd Cove also has a beautiful white fall intro right now.

Thanks to everyone who posted their whites. I enjoyed each and every one.

I'm not overly fond of white even with my roses, but then looking at all these gorgeous photos may make me change my mind. My top three in no particular order are Ann's clump shot of Fringy, Hector's clump shot of his September birthday seedling, and Ann's Ice Crystal which she says is a white white. Are any of these as white as Joan Senior I wonder? That's the only white I have at present and it has been reputed to be the whitest of daylilies available........Maryl

Wow, SO MANY beautiful whites! I love white daylilies. It's been 3 years since this thread was started. Does anyone have any new white ones to add?

@Maryl, Gentle Shepherd is much whiter than Joan Senior.

Wow - I just found this thread for the first time. So many beautiful daylilies! It really helps to see these all and get ideas for good whites to try here. I don't have any introduced whites that haven't already been shown, but I do have a couple of seedlings. The first is a tet - LAURA NYRO x BECKY ADAMS. White is the last color I was expecting. It's very pale pink in the early am but it bakes out pretty quickly in the sun (and believe me I don't have hot summers). The second is a dip - SNOWFLAKE EMPRESS x LOCH NESS MONSTER. The first flowers were not UF, but then all subsequent flowers were. I'm looking forward to seeing what this one does in upcoming years.

Thanks, Debra, Karen and Claudia. Lots of nice seedlings on this post - Ann and Hector and others also have some interesting whites. It's funny, white has never been a special interest for me, but once these bloomed, I can see the attraction. So clean and fresh. Karen, the tet round is about 6.5" across and the dip UF is about 5.5". This was first year bloom for both, so I didn't take official stats yet.

Nice, clean whites, Rob! Thumbs up

My one "near white" seedling, a volunteer from 'Sacrament of Healing', has a lot of yellow in it, though it fades during the day:

morning and evening

It opens well here, but the flower size and scape height (never mind budcount and branching) leave something to be desired. (LFO was 5", scape height a dismal 21.5".) I am hoping that the plant will improve this year, as I rather like the flower.
Evaluating an iris seedling, hopefully for rebloom

Does anyone know of a daylily that really is pure white? All of mine are really a creamy light yellow, or sometimes with very light shades of lavender, pink, peach or apricot. After a few years of looking at them now, I think the one that comes the closest to white by afternoon is LILLIAN'S VAPOR TRAIL. But it is still a cream color.

Flower color is really interesting to me -- I was really into iris a few years back, and there are many pure white iris but no true reds. And when I started focusing on daylilies I think I expected to find pure white daylilies and was quite surprised that so far I have not found a daylily that is really truly white -- but there are many pure red daylilies! And then there is the elusive blue...

Betty,

This is the whitest one in my yard, crossed from WHITE SATIN X ISABELLE ROSE, a tall dip. Named for a special gal, MARGARET'S SPIRIT.

Your daylily seedling looks to be as white as Gentle Shepherd and that is very white indeed. For me, Gentle Shepherd is the whitest daylily that I have ever seen in person. I remembered seeing it in the garden of Perfect Perennials in York PA and remarking that it was even whiter than President Ronald Reagan and Sunday Gloves that were bloomed at the same time.

In my garden, GS is very white by mid afternoon.

I recall reading somewhere (probably here on ATP?) the comment that the near-white dips are whiter than the near-white tets, with the speculation that maybe the greater thickness of the tet flower tissue (more underlying yellow) was the cause.

Among my tet near-whites, I think that 'Voila Francois' and 'Winter Wedding' are maybe the whitest, but some of the dip near-whites (that I have) are maybe a bit whiter than that...

(notice the pink tones in the enlarged image)
(some yellow undertone)
versus
(maybe some yellow, but not as much color as in the tets)
