The runners are called stolons, that will form roots and grow into a new plant. I found the article on Gardenweb with this person insisting that they will grow from tubers. I can't figure out how to put the link into this post though. I would never buy tubers from daylilies, it would be a waste of money. You can buy a fan for what they are selling tubers for.

I remember several years ago that someone bought tubers of daylilies on Ebay. They did not grow and they were more than a little bit, t-d off. I went to Ebay site then and saw the "roots". Someone, I don't know who, contacted Ebay about this and the auction was closed that day. Of course, I don't remember dates or people, it's been a long time ago. I'd like to warn the folks on Ebay not to buy, but if they do buy, don't leave feedback until the "roots" grow a new plant. That would put a stop to this. I'm going to look at the site and i'll be back. Mona

I'm back. I think the first warning on this seller should be they advertise their product as "seed" and then down inside the text, they say tubers. Why not just list them as tubers??? Also, they sell alot of other plant seeds, which when I scrolled through their feedback, is the most of their sales, not daylilies.
I'd bet the farm that these tubers will not grow a daylily fan. So, if you are looking for Daylily Seed, I highly recommend the "Lily Auction". I sale seeds there, I buy seeds(way too many seed!!) there and we have alot of people on here that sale seeds on the "The LIly Auction".

I'm toying with the idea of listing some of my seeds on Ebay. I don't know yet if I will. I think Dot "Ladylovingdove" had listed some on Ebay earlier this year but I didn't see any of hers on Ebay now.

Good luck, Mona

The sad part is, if you look they have sold lots of these too. I think this is fraud, I don't care how many people they sell to or how good their feedback is. I have sent a question to this person and am waiting for an answer. I thought maybe they meant to say "pods" with seeds in them since they say seeds in the auction header.

Let me just add that about 5 years ago there was a person from Heber Springs Arkansas scamming everyone by selling daylilies that were really ditch lilies. This person also was buying daylilies from other people and turning around and selling them at a higher price. Although this auction does not say Heber Springs, but does say Arkansas, I would be very cautious knowing what I do about this scam that occurred several years ago and would definitely not buy.

Cindy, I too remember that scam, but you have a much better memory than I do. I didn't remember the location of the seller. Is this the same one who would use photos of registered daylilies, then make up a name that was similar and sell plants then ship ditch lilies? As I recall many people wrote eBay about the scam but it took them a long time to remove that seller. Thank goodness for Mike Longo who will not tolerate dishonesty on the Lily Auction.

That was another one doing that Ann so I guess there were two of them doing this . This one in Heber Springs Arkansas would actually use the right name of the plant but this seller had about 3 or 4 different alias names and addresses. It was really a mess. Hopefully they are not still on ebay.

I received a reply to the email. This person says that they do indeed grow from tubers, BUT it is not widely known. Why pay $4.00 for a dang tuber, buy a healthy plant.

Here's a fan growing from the bottom of the crown on a clump I was dividing today. You can't see it, but the stolon/runner is forming near the crown under the other roots. I did have another clump that had a stolon without a fan growing from it. I kept it and will plant it to see if it will produce a fan without being attached to the crown

Did the stolon ever form a new fan? I just finished repotting 125 dl's (another 160 to go... ugh) and noticed that one of the cultivars sends out runners, also. All of the new fans were wrapping the outer edge of the pot with the "mother" plant in the middle. At the very least, it made it easy to divide!

Oops I forgot to answer this *Blush*
I went and looked to see if it formed a fan. I'm assuming it did because I couldn't find the pot (that looked empty) that it was in. I just stuck the pot with the other pots of that same plant and didn't mark it, it was the only "empty" pot of the bunch in the back of the row. I had forgotten all about it until you mentioned it, been so busy with garden stuff.
