This is the cook out weekend, isn't it? It's been so dry here all year that we've been on a burn ban. This weekend will be the first time in a long time that we'll be allowed to have a bonfire. Great idea, Gloria! Thumbs up
Hope the rest of you are getting better weather also.

Aspen is reopening their ski resort this weekend. More snow up in the mountains.

http://www.denverpost.com/brea...

Aspen Mountain will reopen for skiing this weekend with a better base depth of snow on Memorial Day than it had on New Year's Day.

The base depth has hovered around 70 inches at the mountaintop since the Aspen Skiing Co. announced last week it will extend the skiing season. The base was 38 inches on Jan. 1.

The ample amount of snow convinced the Skico to fire the chairlifts back up on Aspen Mountain for the long holiday weekend and for future weekends as long as conditions hold up. There will be 25 trails and roughly 136 acres of mostly intermediate terrain open Saturday, Sunday and Monday, May 28-30. All the open terrain will be served by the Ajax Express lift from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The Silver Queen Gondola will run for rides up and down the mountain. There will be no top-to-bottom skiing.

Skiers and riders who purchased the various premiere passes for the 2010-11 season will ski for free during the extended season. All other passholders must pay for a lift ticket. The price is $19 for adult and senior pass holders, ages 18 to 69; $15 for senior passholders, ages 70 and up; $13 for youth passholders, ages 13 to 17; and $10 for child passholders, ages 4 through 12.

The price for adult single-day tickets for non-passholders is $32 per day.

--

70" at the base. That's a breath under 6 foot of snow.

I wanna warm up!! Sad But then again, in about 10 days, it's supposed to be in the 90s. At least that's what they're predicting. Last week they said that Memorial Day was gonna be in the 80s & perfect.. now they're saying that Sunday is gonna have a high of 60.

Maybe it's time to move to NM. Bleh. Wonder how hard it would be to dig up all my roses?

That's too funny - skiing at the end of May! I can see how you might not be amused, however.

Wow I wish I had time to drive out there and ski. Is the snow slushy?
Wonder how long it will take to melt off?

Cindi - no, it's not slushy, it's still powder. They wouldn't have reopened if it was slush, can't ski on slush. & at the rate it's going, we're not going to lose our snow throughout the summer so they may stay the year until next year.

I HATE drought! Seems like it never ends here. In 2009, all the insects and lizards around here died off for a while. It seemed like some bizarre Twilight Zone plot, so strange...that was the summer before El Nino finally showed up during the fall...that was nice, until La Nina came back. Hardly any rain at all this year in this area. Getting so tired of watering plants in the yard.

Today's low was 34 degrees.

Tomorrow's high is expected to be near 96.

Yikes!
Does your furnace shift to air conditioning on its own or do you have to change it twice a day?

Mine does...programmable thermostat. But your temp range is pretty extreme, Skiekitty! Texas doesn't usually get that bad.

It's actually quite nice out there right now, (59 degs, 25% humidity) a little damp but complete cloudcover. If we keep these clouds, it won't be as bad. You have to realize that 90+ degs at 6000 ft is a LOT hotter than 90+ at sea level... and I've lived at both. But it's completely still right now, let's keep those fingers crossed that the meterologists were wrong (again). Although my maters are loving this heat!! I bought two teeny little tomato (mater) plants a week ago and they've doubled in size! Can't wait to get some cherry tomatoes!! Thumbs up

EDIT - Don't think it's gonna go into the 90s today.. it's only 83 because of the cloudcover never broke. Yay!! Smiling and since there's still a nice breeze, it's not stuffy either. This will help the ol' electric bill stay down! Smiling

Well, Trail Ridge Road, the highest paved road in the US, is FINALLY open! YAY! We'll have to head up there in a few weeks.. it's so beautiful up there when spring finally hits, but I'm not sure if there will be a spring this year for the Alpine ridge. We usually hike up one of the peaks there (I think it caps out a little over 14,000 ft, but not 100% sure, I'll take some pics).

Yes, we need any rain you can divert and send our way also! Rain, please! Our forecasts are unbelievably monotonous...every days like a litany of "hot and sunny", etc..

Cold snap sounds real good too! So tired of high 90's every day! Makes the yard almost oven-like.

Gloria, I'm afraid that water in a ditch would evaporate as soon as it got near the "scorched earth" zone of Texas. But yeah, I wish!
