I posted this in one other thread but thought maybe it deserved its own...

Heirloom just announced the first day of its summer sale (Saturday, June 20), with up to 30% off select varieties and free shipping for orders over $65. A lot of the roses I want are out of stock, but I managed to order a replacement of the shrub rose (or short climber) Oranges 'n' Lemons (which didn't survive the winter move we made six years ago), and the grandiflora Crazy Love.

I have half a dozen others I wanted that were out of stock, so will have to wait till the fall when they are full price. But both were on sale and I got free shipping to boot, just for these two. Besides, the bare root roses I've ordered from Heirloom in the past have performed splendidly. The hybrid musks I've gotten from them are the largest roses in my garden (other than New Dawn), and I treat them like big climbers. And in my cold climate, bare roots have certain advantages, so I'm happy.

I wanted Sunrise at Heirloom and the Wedding Gown hydrangea but both were sold out. Maybe next year!

I had lost track of Heirloom since I hadn't ordered from them over the past few years, and only just discovered their ownership changed a few years ago. I hope the quality of the plants are still as good. (I need to keep up with market developments better.)

I got 3 this year. 2 were gorgeous, healthy plants. The third was terrible. 3 leafless canes, one of which was mushy. I thought for sure it would die but it perked right up within a werk of planting and is the largest of the three now. Weird. It does have the sunniest spot though.

I just purchased an Earth Angel at full price ( I want it now, have been waiting for it to be "in stock" somewhere, and prefer own-root) and a Pretty Lady Rose. I saw that Belinda's Dream is on sale also, but will hold out for another 2-gallon plant, for less, from A.R.E.

This weekend, I sent a stock request e-mail to R.U. regarding three varieties but have not heard from them yet.

I have had great luck with Heirloom's Roses, but I find their roses even when shipping is included is at a higher cost. Paying more is something I can only rationalize for certain roses and situations.

I last ordered from Heirlooom this past winter, just a couple plants, and they were small but quite healthy, now growing well in my garden.
Mike S, quality seems about the same to me as years ago.

I received my shipment of Oranges 'n' Lemons, and Crazy Love in one-gallon pots today, and am quite happy with the quality of the plants as well as the packing. Two thumbs up.

I think so too, Zuzu. I'm especially glad to finally be replacing the three Oranges n Lemons that didn't survey the wintertime move we made to our present home six years ago. It's also one of my husband's favorites; he used to always comment on it, and rarely comments on any others. In fact, it might have been the only rose in the garden he knew the name of when we had it!

Meanwhile, here's an interesting video from Heirloom, entitled "What to expect when your roses arrive."

I have been a frequent critic of Heirloom since their "free shipping" changed to a $50 surcharge to ship to Hawaii. However, because of their sale price discount and a $10 Blooms reward I was able to offset their price a bit. At my request they shipped via UPS rather than USPS. The roses arrived in two days and were in great condition. Heirloom is a pretty good deal if you wait for their sales.

Heirloom Roses is having another summer sale starting today (Friday). If you missed the first one, you might see something you like this time around.
