Steve, the way the edge changes color from cream yellow to white is an interesting adder to that "true winner".

Tim, if I had a dollar for every seedling that had problems with opening...

I have countless obvious rejects, a couple sure keepers, but what to do with the ones that keep saying "yeah but"...

Like this sib to my "encouraging" seedling. Not applique. Yeah, but the sepal coloration is exceptional. It's so hard to find good sepals!
Thumb of 2020-07-06/Dennis616/73afad

Not applique. Yeah, but its 6.5" blooms are richly colored and on a vigorous plant with well-branched and budded scapes.
Thumb of 2020-07-06/Dennis616/408cde

I don't think this bloom is distinctive enough. Yeah, but the plant keeps putting out 52"+ scapes while growing in a small pot. That kind of height is worth keeping, right?
Thumb of 2020-07-06/Dennis616/6228b1

Well at this point it's not like my seedling beds are overflowing with true champions, so these "yeah buts" get to stay, for now...

This one has a very exotic look that I like. Would you classify it as an applique?

Steve - I'm still laughing at the garden name "Oversized Pants!" I love your toothy purple!

Greg - All those seedlings look good. Have you hybridized much with Electric Ladyland? I do like your seedling from it.

2nd year for this one, which came from Earlybird Cardinal and Starmans Quest. It is a bit shorter this year but still has great color and form

This is my third year for this one. It is cute and blooms earlier than its Parent Earlybird Cardinal.

Heidi, can you tell me if your seedlings from Early Bird Cardinal bloom as early as their parent and do they rebloom reliably as well? Thanks!

I have been inspired to also post "baby pictures"! Like Celestialrose, I have been out there in my jammies to take pictures! My kids think I'm weird, but isn't that so typical! I also keep a notebook of stats. I'm new at this, so not a hybridizer by trade. I need to study some terminology this winter, but for now, I take a lot of pictures & scribble notes for future reference/possible registration. It's like Christmas time knowing some of last years seedlings are about to bloom for the first time in their lives. I've had interesting results- from quirky & interesting to beautiful, like a box of chocolates. Here is a sample to share!

This oddity is "Ultimate Illusion x Multi-ring Pileup". It's interesting, so curious to see how it looks in the future. Has a ghostly mark/pattern around the throat, like a glaze.

Thumb of 2020-07-06/Crazyplantlady611/16baaa

"Nile Jewel x Pigment of Imagination" - pretty to me! Very sturdy in hot afternoon sun too.
Thumb of 2020-07-06/Crazyplantlady611/1f1cce

This pretty little thaaaang is "How Beautiful You Are x Multi-ring Pileup". 7" bloom. Looks like a cascade? Maybe?

So my reddish pink ones started blooming on June 25 this year and July 4 last year. I am in zone 5b. EBC has had first bloom on 6/25, 7/2, 6/5, 7/2 and 6/29. So I would have to say it is inline with what I get from EBC here in CT.

My deep purple on has bloomed on 7/12 and 7/4. It seems to be a little later like Starman's Quest, which has bloomed on 7/11, 7/8, 7/17 and hopefully later this week.

As for rebloom. It is too soon to say. I have never had rebloom on EBC.

Ummm, going out in your jammies is a problem???? If I am not running out the door to go to work, I am outside in my jammies every single morning. My yard is pretty secluded...... Of course, I do wait until I am dressed to go out to my gardens along the road. *Blush* *Blush*

Here are some seedlings that bloomed today. I'll start with some from today and work my way back to the first, I'm so far behind with everything and just don't have the time to post very often anymore. After I get done looking and drooling over everyone else's, seems like I'm out of time to post my own. Great seedlings on here everyone! Great job! I tip my hat to you. I have truly enjoyed them Thank You!

Thanks Heidi! That's really helpful! I have been thinking of using Earlybird Cardinal for hybridizing to get earlier blooms offspring. It sounds like its offspring did bloom quite early for you.

Welcome! Crazyplantlady611 I echo what Daniel said. Wishing you many beautiful seedlings in the years to come. I think your How Beautiful You Are x Multi-ring Pileup seedling bloom is gorgeous. Love the cascade, the pattern, and the big green eye!

Trina, Bentley Samuel's kids are gorgeous! I love your seedling's colors. The deep green throat is really striking.
