I've another very dark one - its an old cultivar, the hybridizer passed away before he was able to register it. It is called Fleishel's Black:

The plant has a bright orange throat - and the color is darker (camera is not able to catch the correct tones).

Just noticed that the plant is listed in the database here but written 'fleichal's black' but as far as I know it's from Feishel, who registered 28 daylilies from 1961 to 1971.

Sue, Your Fleishel Black combines darkness with unusual petal disposition ( Lovey dubby Lovey dubby Lovey dubby ). This second trait is another of my search targets!. Should a thread with unusual petal shapes appear next to this one?

Hmm, I definitely need to widen my options. It clearly improves the landscape attributes in a garden. The blacks really stand out, specially when contrasted with light coloured ones.

Fleishel Black- the colors remind me of Africa, I grew that one for a while but I ended up parting with it, it was the darkest one I have grown so far, next to Jungle Beauty.

I'm happy to have found this thread as the near blacks are among my favorites and I have been able to add a LOT of daylilies to my want list.

Hilarious! the ever growing want list!

Mike Bouman has a new black intro for 2023.

Appears to be tall with lots of buds and nice branching, sadly not zone 4 hardy.

There are newer cultivars that are blacker than this but they're out of my price range right now. Of the ones I do have, Jungle Beauty is my favorite.

Another favorite is an heirloom NOID, lots of blooms and increases quickly.

There are some beauties in this thread. I have only a couple of dark ones and no pictures yet. Night Wings was eaten by deer last year. Grumbling
And Ashwood Dark Side is a new plant.

I do have some of the purples, but they are not all that dark here.

Jungle Beauty is in my Want list, as are quite a few of the other lovelies.

Chicago Blackout is also a favorite of mine; the photo is from my garden in Angier, NC. Just obtained the plant this Fall so don't know what it will look like when it first blooms, hopefully next year. It took eight years for me to find this one, have Crossing Fingers!

One of my hybridizing goals is the dark ones, many more dark seedlings.
These are all tets, but their sure are some beautiful dips out there. Hope
Someone converts some of them one day. Thumbs up
