Well enjoy @Mike I am just not that big a fan of Hybrid Tea Roses so I will continue to stick with Old Garden Roses and other older rose varieties
I have had hybrid teas in my garden and my favorite was 'Dainty Bess'

Barbra Streisand is like Mortimer Sackler. She invades your thinking and makes you continue to sing all day; he causes my brain to boil about ill-gotten gains.

To give old Mortimer his due. Apparently his family didn't start pushing opiates until after he died. His widow (wife #3) bought naming rights to DA's most recent rose at a charity auction.

Now, Graham Thomas, didn't he write "Malice Among the Old Garden Roses"?

OH WOW!! We have several different "Graham Thomas" one is Graham Stuart Thomas who is the rosarian, and
we have Graham A. Thomas who is an author and we have a pseudonym "Graham Thomas" who is actually Gordon Kosakowski and wrote
a series of mysteries with the principal character being Erskine Powell of Scotland Yard

Your roses are fantastic! What fertilizer(s) are you using?
Always seeking recommendations and advice. I welcome suggestions for heat loving roses with great scent, disease resistance, and long vase life.

Were you asking me that question, or someone else? I use Bill's Perfect Fertilizer as my organic liquid, and occasionally use VERY diluted synthetic liquid fertilizers, about 1/4 the recommended strength.

I try not to use synthetic fertilizers, which is why I use them in a very diluted solution, and only occasionally. Over the long term, the salts used to deliver the fertilizer can build up in the soil and can "lock up" the very nutrients you're putting down. Also, I prefer to feed the soil, rather than the plant, so to speak. By that I mean, organic fertilizers feed the soil, whereas the use of synthetic fertilizers don't so much improve the soil as they just go directly into rapid plant growth. It's sort of like a human consuming an apple versus a sugar packet. They both give you energy, but one is healthier in the long run than the other. Just my opinion.

That makes sense, Mike. nourish the soil so that the plants can thrive.
I don't have a feeding routine. I'm afraid recently I've been fertilizing when I think of it. I think that needs to change.

I'm not very technically savvy but the "reminders" on my phone have proven to be very handy, especially for recurring things I need to do. I even have some set to just remind of things I need to do only once a year.

Purple heart: I hope it is actually purplish once the things cool down. Temps are heading into the 90s again after a few nice weeks.

Louis Phillippe. Lost a cane yesterday and the flowers were mostly damaged as workers took down my neighbour's tree. It never ceases to amaze me how workers will traipse all over my yard without so much as a knock on the door to inform me let alone ask permission. Last time they ripped out a huge section of my lawn. I've spoken to people on my street about it and apparently it's common practice and people just put up with it. I moved to Baltimore County from rural Pennsylvania where that would NEVER happen. Mostly because you'd get shot for trespassing or the cops would get called. I'm only 90 minutes away but the cultural differences are astounding. I'm not keen on rushing yard workers with guns but I also hate how something gets damaged every single time someone else gets work done!

Sigh.

The new rose on Tropical lightening is much darker than the previous one and the streaking is also more dramatic.

Mike & seilMI,
Do you root drench or foliar feed your roses when you apply Bill's Perfect Fertilizer?
And do you apply it every 1 - 2 weeks as recommended on their website?
Thank you in advance.

Hiyamakki, that must be sooo frustrating to have someone come onto your property and damage your roses or lawn. I would be apoplectic if someone did that, and would be in their face in a New York minute, yelling many bad words.

Your About Face bloom is lovely. Maybe like yours, mine never last long on the bush. Next to Windermere, they are the shortest-lasting blooms in my garden.

Margie, I don't fertilize all that often because my soil is very healthy to begin with, and if I fertilized every couple of weeks I'd spend way too much time and money on organic fertilizers, given the expanse of the gardens. I fertilize a few times per season, and like Bill's Perfect Fertilizer because it's the strongest organic liquid fertilizer I've ever found. I use it as a drench, not as a foliar spray.

Thank you Mike and Seil for your quick response. Do you use Bumper Crop Soil Builder? I found this product has helped to improve my soil.

Margie, I've not seen that product in any of the nurseries I visit in Westchester, Putnam, and Dutchess Counties here in NY (although you're on Long Island if I recall, is that correct?) However, I see that it's manufactured by Coast of Maine, and I use some of their other soil amendments. Whenever I plant a rose, I dig a hole about 18" wide and deep. I replace half of the native soil with a combination of compost (sometimes plain manure, but other times Coast of Maine's Lobster/Blueberry blend) and peat moss. I mix organic granular fertilizer into the planting soil, which provides slow-released nutrients that don't burn the rose roots.
